THE LEAD DOG
The BHS Newsletter, 22nd Edition: Monday, Feb. 3, 2025
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
Students, Parents, Faculty, and Staff,
As I said last week, "You can have all the education in the world, but if you don't develop some resiliency, it is going to be hard to be successful in anything in life." We left with the question: Can resiliency be learned? If so, how?
YES! The good news is resilience can be learned. It involves developing thoughts, behaviors, and actions that allow you to recover from traumatic or stressful events in life.
Remember that resilience is the capacity to rise above difficult circumstances, the trait that allows us to exist in this less-than-perfect world while moving forward with optimism and confidence. I often remember my parents telling me to be "tough" or "toughen up" when I was growing up. That was their way of building resilience in me.
You can develop resilience in several ways:
- Focus on thinking positively and learn from the mistakes you make. Everyone makes mistakes. Learn from them; don't repeat them.
- Build strong relationships with family, friends, and colleagues so that you have a support network to fall back on. There are going to be hard times, and we all need help from time to time.
- Set specific and achievable personal goals that match your values, and work on building your self-confidence. You have to find success in little things and believe in yourself.
- Take time to exercise regularly, eat healthy, and get enough sleep so that you can control stress more easily. The stronger you feel physically and emotionally, the easier you can overcome challenges.
Keep these tips for building resiliency in mind as we push through this Spring semester and the peaks and valleys we are sure to encounter before we get to the end.
"Everyone has a role in our students' education... the students, teachers and staff, the parents, and the community... Go Hounds!"

Boerne HS Campus Behavior Expectations...
Parents,
We ask that you review our "Campus Behavior Expectations" with your student. If your student wants to be successful at Boerne HS academically, socially, and emotionally, these three simple, easy expectations can be followed. As faculty and staff, we plan to model these behaviors to our students daily. We will be visiting with and reminding our students about these expectations consistently and ask that you do the same.
Be prompt and productive - be where you are supposed to be, when you are supposed to be there, and do what you are supposed to do.
Have respect for yourself and others - when you have respect, you make good, thoughtful choices considering everyone's feelings and beliefs.
See something, say something - be a voice for someone when they can't. If you see or know something is wrong, alert an adult you know ASAP. Don't overlook something you know is wrong.
