Well what a fabulous week we had last week for sunshine although I did find myself fitting the stereotype of always moaning it is too cold and then moaning it was too hot!
A huge welcome to our new family and their three children who have joined the Pearls class. Already they have settled in really well and we welcome you to our family.
The ramp to the field is finally finished and the children have enjoyed using it at last.
Hopefully you will enjoy reading, seeing and watching what we have got up to over the past fortnight. There are some useful up and coming dates to note as well as more information on our online payment system.
Please let us know what you think to our new newsletter style too. We will be sending a fortnightly newsletter filled with what we have been up to and up and coming dates

Did you know that a centipede doesn't have 100 legs? Centipedes actually have closer to 30 legs.
When we had gathered out facts, we organised them into our own fact files. It's been a real hands-on experience these last few weeks as we have been hunting under every rock and log to get a close up glimpse of the magnificent minibeasts that live around us in their own hidden habitats.
We have also had the opportunity to listen to some authors and illustrators who have been talking to us about their jobs and giving us tips about how to write books and draw amazing illustrations. Check out our Twitter page for some of our amazing drawings.
Pearls children are working on understanding and forming a sentence independently.

In English, we have been finishing off and editing our diary entries about ‘A day on board Titanic’. We have been focusing on peer marking, careful checking then reviewing and improving our writing.
In Maths, we have been looking at data (pictograms, bar charts, line graphs) and we have been asking and answering questions using this data.
We have just started our new topic in Science ‘Sounds’.
This week we have also been focusing on reading and each day this week, we have had a daily online workshop with a different author.

Reading - Author Sessions
The school have purchased these books so that the children have the opportunity to read one of the authors books for themselves which will hopefully broaden the authors they choose to read.
Please can I ask that you encourage your child to read regularly at home. Children are rewarded for this and the school has invested a lot of money and time into trying to increase reading. There are help videos and more information on our website.

We can be Heroes: Classic Stories for Wellbeing Today is a live, free, 45 minute event for children aged 3-9 and their families, and part of the British Academy Summer Showcase.
What can you learn about kindness from a lion? Could a mouse show you how to help a friend in need?
Classical stories have a lot to teach us about wellbeing and mental health today, from how to help others, to showing kindness even when we are afraid.
Join Dr Rachel Bryant Davies from Queen Mary University London and storyteller Wendy Shearer to hear tales from the Greek and Roman world - plusyou can even learn how to make your their own origami lion!
Parents can sign up on the British Academy’s website here.

Up and Coming Dates
The Coldcroft Shires Challenge!
We were so lucky that we were able to meet the Shire Horses and talk to the team even if it was raining.
A bit from the team:
The challenge we have set is for the team to travel from Gloucestershire up to Morayshire in North East Scotland.
The team consists of Millie and Willam - two of our Shire horses that work on the farm, Boo Boo Beithe the farm dog and myself as the carriage driver.
The journey starts on Saturday June 5th 2021 and the trip will take about eight weeks. We will travel about 650 miles (1050km).
The reason for this is to raise monies for Police Care UK and The Fire Fighters Charity. Two essential charities that support serving and retired police officers and their families and the fire & rescue service community.
An important part of their work is with injured personnel whether it is physical or emotional/mental health. These people risk much on a daily basis to keep us all safe when needed and protect us.
If you would like to support them you can donate here.
