A Message From Dr. Ellison
8th Grade Semester Class Change:
- 8th Grade semester class changes will take place Monday, January 8th. This will allow for a few things to happen. All students will have the opportunity to take their final exam in those semester classes. Teachers will be able to return completed and graded exams to students. Teachers will have the opportunity to post final grades and say goodbye to their classes. Students will get an updated schedule by January 5, 2018
An Important Message From Traci Early, Shelby County Public Schools, District Health Nurse:
Parents and Guardians,
Earlier today you received an email from our district health nurse Traci Early regarding the new vaccines your student may need. The Department of Public Health has a
new requirement for every Middle School aged student to have evidence of
receiving 2 Hepatitis A vaccinations. Please review the document and speak
with your child's pediatrician to determine if your child needs any
vaccinations. The Hepatitis A vaccination series is comprised of two
vaccinations received 6 months apart. The CDC has recommended this vaccination series for several years, so many children have already received this two dose series but since it was not a requirement for school attendance it was not listed on most immunization certificates. A new immunization certificate will
need to be provided to your child's school.
This requirement is in addition to the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccinations that are required between the ages of 11-12.
Thank you for your time and attention in making sure your child is meeting all of the vaccination requirements for school attendance.
If you have any questions regarding this, please email Traci Early at the address below.
Sincerely,
Traci Earley RN CCM
District Health Coordinator

AP Registration Is Still Open:
Students may register for their AP exams starting Friday, December 1, 2017- February 16, 2018. Students will register online through our Total Registration site: www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/182400
This site allows students to pay with a debit or credit card, or a check. The cost per exam is $98.00. If you are on Free and Reduced lunch stop by and see Mrs. Settles or Mrs. Purdom for more information on how to register. Students new to AP must register on the site and create an account. If students have account trouble or cannot remember a password, send them to me. If you would like help with showing your students how to navigate the site, please let me know. We have been using this registration method for about six years, so most of our students are used to it and will just need to log in and register for the exams. If you have any questions about this process, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Do you want to be healthier in 2018 and beyond?
Do you want to learn healthy habits to manage your health and/or weight for life?
Make 2018 The Year!
Be committed!
If you have been struggling with weight, you are not alone.
Over 66 percent of adults in the United States are overweight or obese.
This is perhaps the most rapidly growing health problem, and it is a health problem!
Management and Prevention of chronic diseases are greatly influenced by our lifestyles.
What is “Microclinics?”
We are using the curriculum from the national program, Microclinics. This is how it works: Two or more friends or family members agree to form a “microclinic” together. A microclinic is not a building, but a real-life group of family, friends, and colleagues who want to improve their health, or support a loved one in improving his or her health. Losing weight is an important part of the focus but good healthy lifestyles providing tools to prevent and/or mange chronic diseases is the overall focus.
(KY Results of Programs: 95% of participants who completed the program improved in at least one health risk factor for obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Furthermore, participants maintained these improvements 16 months after starting the program.)
