Wildcat Weekly- Welcome Back
Welcome Wildcats!
The Pomerado team is very excited to welcome our students and families to the 2024-25 school year!
Families play a critical role in their student’s success and we want to make sure you have the information you need to support your student(s). You will be receiving weekly messages by email from our team to make sure you are informed about what is happening at school. You can also check the Pomerado website for important information.
We recognize that you may have questions at the start of the school year and we will do our best to get them answered and support a smooth transition back to school for our students and families.
For the first day of school only, families may accompany their student(s) to the breakfast tables and/or playground.
Plan ahead for your arrival to school and please be patient during the first few school days as traffic will be heavy while we learn new routines and get back into the flow of things. :)
We are looking forward to a school year filled with joyful learning and are eager to work with you to ensure each Wildcat has a successful school year.
Below you will find information related to the school year. If you have questions or need support, please reach out to our team. We are happy to help!
Daily schedule
KID Days for Kindergarten
For the first 5 weeks of school (Aug. 21 - Sept. 30), Kinder students will dismiss at 12:55 pm each day. During this time, our Kinder teachers will be meeting with students in the afternoon. Our Kinder team will work with each family to schedule a date to work with your student. During your appointment, your student will work with their teacher through an assessment of early Kinder literacy and math skills. This provides an opportunity to get to know each student in depth.
Starting on Tuesday, October 1, Kinder students will dismiss at 3:05 pm (1:25 pm on Thursdays).
Meals at School
Breakfast and lunch are available at no charge to all PUSD students, under California's Universal Meals Program. Please visit the PUSD Food and Nutrition website for more information and menus. Families may also choose to pack their student’s lunch and snack for school each day.
Breakfast
School breakfast service begins at 8:15 am and ends at 8:35 am each day. Students can leave the breakfast tables and go to the playground starting at 8:25 am or when they finish eating.
Lunch
Students may choose to pack lunch from home or get lunch from the cafeteria for free. Students have a 40 minute block for lunch which includes 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes to play.
Beginning of the School Day, Drop Off Routines
Beginning of the School Day
There are two ways for students to enter school in the morning,
(1) the Walker Gate by the lower baseball fields and
(2) the Upper Gate by the upper parking lot.
🚶Walker Gate: Students who walk to school and those who arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am for breakfast will enter through the Walker Gate.
🚗Upper Gate: Students who are driven to school and arrive after 8:25 am, will be dropped off in the upper parking lot at the Upper Gate.
Students who arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am
If students arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am they must enter through the Walker Gate near the lower baseball fields, so families will need to drop them off near this gate. If you are driving, please drop your student(s) off on the same side of the street as the school so they do not need to cross Ninth St.
Students who are driven to school and arrive after 8:25 am
Students arriving by car at 8:25 am or later can be dropped off at the Upper Gate in the upper parking lot and will then walk across the playground to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast.
Playground
Playground supervision begins at 8:25 am so students should not be on the playground until then. Except for the first day of school, families will not be allowed on campus before school. Students can be dropped off in the upper parking lot, families will remain in their cars, or students who walk will enter through the Walker Gate on the east side of school by the lower baseball fields. Staff will be available to assist in both locations. Students can play on the playground until the bell rings at 8:40 am, when they will line up and then walk to class with their teacher.
End of the School Day, Dismissal Routines
TK/Kinder:
- TK students walk up to the upper parking lot at 12:55 pm with their teacher for dismissal.
- Kinder students are dismissed in front of school from the gate near our library. Kinder parents need to park in the upper lot and walk down to meet their student.
Students in grades 1-5 who walk home will exit out of the Walker Gate by the baseball field. Students in grades 1-5 who are driven home, will be picked up in the upper parking lot. In the upper lot you can simply pull up and your student will be directed to your car.
