The School District of Fort Atkinson is accepting applications for multiple Special Education Aides at Fort Atkinson Middle School. These are school year positions, working 7 hours per day (7:45am-3:15pm with 30 min. unpaid lunch).
Under the direction and supervision of the Special Education Teacher, the Special Education Aide duties include:
- Carry out instruction plans
- Implement individual goals, specially designed instruction and accommodations and modifications
- Assist in the implementation of accommodations in the school setting
- Complete a communication log if directed by the teacher
- Reinforce student behavioral interventions
- Implement written academic and/or behavioral plans
- Provide feedback related to student performance
- Supervise students on the playground and other designated areas
- Assist in the preparation and/or production of instructional materials
- Make spontaneous decisions when unanticipated situations arise
- Communicate student performance and progress to the special education teacher
- Assist with daily living skills and independent skills
- Take care of hygiene needs as necessary
- Support students in the swimming pool
- Assist students in a community setting
- Drive students in district vehicles
- Lift and/or transfer
Qualifications:
This position requires the candidate to meet “highly qualified” standards of one of the following:
- Two years or more of study at an institute of higher education (completion of 48 semester hours or equivalent of trimester hours), or
- Associate or higher degree,
- Passing a test to demonstrate the knowledge of and ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics.
Department of Public Instruction Special Education License -- can obtain after hired
District Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training -- can obtain after hired
CPR/First Aid training -- can obtain after hired
