Welcome to our Quarter 4 of Growth and Discovery!
As summer approaches, our afterschool's program is excited to unveil activities crafted to ignite curiosity and foster growth.
Join us on this journey of exploration and inspiration. Let's make this summer one of discovery and excellence!
- Teacher Environmental Literacy Leader (TELL) (Friday, Saturday, & Sunday) May 17–19): engaging workshops and activities focused on increasing awareness of environmental issues and inspiring students to become responsible stewards of the planet. One crucial element of our DOE Green Ribbon Awards pertains to the Clean Air Act.
- Interschool Robotic Competition and Food Festival (Saturday, June 1): A showcase of technical skills and teamwork, where students compete in robotics challenges while enjoying delicious food from various cuisines & vendors. This is our school's end-of-year club showcase.
- Home Visit for Rising Grade 9 (June 14–30): Ensuring a smooth transition to high school by personally connecting with students and families, offering support and guidance for the upcoming academic year.
- Pre-School Year Programs (August 1–16):
- Rising Grade 9 Summer Bridge Program: Equipping students with essential tools and knowledge to thrive in high school.
- Academic Excellence and Life Skills Program: Empowering students to excel academically while developing crucial life skills
- STEM Summer Institute: An essential aspect of our summer program that involves students working on a project critical to our Green Ribbon Awards. They will need to submit documentation to the Maryland State Superintendent for CMIT's recommendation to the DOE.
These programs aim to empower students for success academically and personally. We're excited about the positive impact they'll have on your child's growth and development.

CMIT Chemistry Honors Students Get a Sweet Taste of Thermochemistry
Last week, CMIT Chemistry Honors students turned their classroom into an ice cream parlor, applying their knowledge of thermochemistry to create delicious homemade ice cream. This hands-on activity allowed students to mix half-and-half with sugar and their choice of flavors—strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla—inside small ziplock bags. These were then placed into larger ziplock bags filled with ice and salt. As the salt dissolved in the ice, the students felt the temperature drop significantly, illustrating the principles of freezing point depression and endothermic reaction in real-time. Shaking the bags with enthusiasm, some students even broke into dance and invented creative mixing techniques to speed up the process. The result? A collection of delightful, creamy ice creams that everyone enjoyed. This experiment not only provided a sweet treat but also reinforced the practical application of chemistry concepts in a fun and memorable way.
