The Lexington County School District One College Center at Gilbert High School will provide a small cohort experience (up to 30 accepted students) and create a sense of belonging. Accepted students will complete their four years of high school on Gilbert High School's campus. As a result of The College Center (TCC), students will become college-minded, explore careers, and actively serve in the community.
The College Center will have both a college and high school feel in a unique Center space. The College Center will offer high levels of individualized support, an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) elective, college and career exploration visits, financial planning, and family engagement.
Students will earn up to 36 credits toward a South Carolina Diploma, made up of 24+ Dual Enrollment hours, 18—21 Advanced Placement (AP) hours, work-based learning, and community service.
As a support for students, AVID provides students with tools and research-based strategies to help ensure they are successful both now and in the future. The AVID elective course will provide students with the skills they need to advance academically as they prepare for their ultimate goal—of attending college or pursuing post—secondary options.
While being immersed in a college—bound culture, students will learn study skills, note—taking, time management, writing skills, and research skills. The class also includes tutoring sessions, field trips to colleges/universities, and community service.
