News
Dear ChurchillCSD Families & Staff,
This past week I enjoyed seeing many of the Homecoming Activities and I finished the week watching the Greenwave Football team charge to the end zone several times for a win. Homecoming is a display of some of the best things about our schools and the work that is done within them. The athletic teams are only a portion of what the week stands for. There were many students and staff members that organized and made sure all of the events of the week happened. It is great to see their efforts end with such displays of school spirit and camaraderie.
There are many things happening in our schools and I want to encourage parents to become involved in our schools. Contact your childβs teacher or school administrator to find out ways you can be involved. There are parent involvement meetings and opportunities to help in the classroom and during the school day.
Another way to be involved is to spend time daily talking with your child about their school day. While students are with us at school lots of great things happen. An important part of learning is sharing your new knowledge with others, and that includes parents.
I am grateful for all of the work that goes on in our schools and in your homes. Our kids are the rising generation and the future is bright!
Regards,
Derild Parsons

IMPORTANT Health Services Information
RESPIRATORY ILLNESS
With the beginning of a new school year, and the close contact we have with one another, brings respiratory illnesses; Influenza (Flu), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and COVID-19.
Symptoms of all three are very similar, which makes it hard to distinguish between these illnesses. Therefore, if you think your child may have one of these respiratory illnesses, please get them tested by a healthcare provider so we can prevent the spread in our schools and community.
COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
Students suspected of having a communicable disease may be temporarily excluded from school until an appropriate medical authority determines that the student is not a health or safety threat to other students or staff members. Written documentation may be required from a medical care provider if determined by the school nurse.
Students will be excluded for any of the following conditions:
Fever 100.4 degrees F or higher
Signs or symptoms of possible severe respiratory illnesses (Flu, COVID, RSV)
Diarrhea, defined as having more than 6 loose stools in a 24-hour period, or 3 in a 7 1/2 hour school day.
Vomiting
Mouth or nose sores (e.g., Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease)
Rash
Suspicious skin lesions (e.g., Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease)
Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Unusual color of skin, eyes, stool, or urine
Exclusion may also occur for the mildly ill child if the child is unable to participate in normal activities or if the child needs more care than can be provided by school health staff.
LICE
We are all excited to be back at school! As we encourage children to learn and share, they also share things we don't want them to: Head Lice! We start seeing a lot of lice outbreaks at our schools this time of year. Please click the link below to learn how to identify lice and for information on what you can do if lice hits your home.

π Migrant Education Program Newsletter
The Migrant Education Program (MEP) offers technical assistance and financial support to enhance educational opportunities and academic success for migrant children, youth, agricultural workers, fishers, and their families. Its primary goal is to ensure that migrant children receive the same free public education as other children. MEP funds, which are federal, support high-quality education programs for migratory children aged 3 to 21. These funds help prevent penalties due to disparities in curriculum, graduation requirements, or academic standards as children move between states or within a state. Additionally, MEP ensures that migratory children have full and fair opportunities to meet the same challenging state academic standards expected of all students.

School Highlights π
ππ Churchill County High School
Written by Laci Peterson, 11th Grade, CCFFA Reporter
CCFFA celebrated their new Ag teachers, Ryann Kulbeth and Brittany Pimental, on National Teach Ag Day last week. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the hard work and dedication of agriculture teachers. They play a crucial role in shaping the future of agriculture and inspiring students. Kulbeth is very passionate about teaching Ag and inspiring her students. βAgriculture Education and FFA make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Ag Ed highlights the importance of leadership, personal growth, and preparation for future careers, emphasizing how agricultural education plays a vital role in shaping responsible, skilled individuals ready to contribute to society,β Kulbeth said. Pimental agreed and said the CCHS program is designed to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and experiences in and about agriculture. βAg Ed prepares students for further education, self-employment, entry-level jobs, and consumer awareness in the agriculture industry. Students whose lives are impacted by agriculture education achieve academic and personal growth, strengthen American agriculture, and provide leadership to build healthy local communities, a strong nation, and a sustainable world,β Pimental said. As a member of CCFFA, I speak for all of us when I say we are so lucky to have such passionate educators teaching us and guiding us along the way. Thank you for all you do.

Lucas Koenig is working hard with CCMS student musicians on band practice. He delivers strong instruction, clear skill set mastery and musical knowledge. All of this is laced with humor, providing a class of varied musical instruments, and creating an environment built upon proper feedback. It is so refreshing to see our teachers pour their passion into their students. Koenig is one of the many who makes learning fun and inspiring for students here at CCMS.
ππ¦ Numa Elementary School
Friday, September 20th, was PJammin for Cancer Day at Numa. Students and staff could bring in a donation of any amount to wear their pajamas to school. All donations collected will be donated to Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation. As a whole school we collected $1,246.93.

Very Important Bulldog (VIB) is part of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) plan for E.C. Best. Each week teachers choose one student who follows the four B's: Be kind, Be safe, Be responsible, Be respectful. Then that student gets to choose one person to be a VIB with them for the day. They are line leaders, get to be the first students in line at lunch, and they get to eat at a special table in the lunchroom.
ππΊ Lahontan Elementary School
Students in Kirby Goetschβs class celebrated International Dot Day. IDD is usually celebrated around September 15 and this year was the 15th anniversary of Dot Day. Students read "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds and then spent the afternoon creating dot artwork using different media and techniques.
