Volunteering Opportunity
Summer Reading Challenge in West Sussex Libraries
Summer Reading Challenge 2025
Over the past few years, students in year 9 and above from Oathall have volunteered at various public libraries across West Sussex to support the delivery of the Summer Reading Challenge. Details for this year’s programme have now been released and are outlined below.
"We are currently looking for volunteers aged 14 years and over to help us run the Summer Reading Challenge for primary school children in all 36 of our libraries. Volunteering is a fantastic way to build confidence in young people and helps them develop valuable skills for future job roles and university applications, as well as inspiring younger children to read for pleasure.
Volunteers will be asked to:
- Help families sign up online to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge
- Listen to children talk about books they have read
- Hand out rewards and encourage children to keep reading
The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge is Reading Garden! The Reading Agency hopes that this theme will inspire children to tap into a world of imagination through reading, exploring the magical connection between storytelling and nature."
