Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 9th February 2024
A Terrific Time at Young Voices
Rocking it at The Young Voices Concert
Our fabulous choir of 45 children from Years 3, 4 and 5 have been busy rehearsing and eagerly anticipating the Young Voices concert since September, and what an amazing night it was when it eventually arrived on Thursday! They, along with 3500 other school children, performed a wide range of songs with huge enthusiasm (and some seriously good dance moves) at the Sheffield Arena. Hits included a Matilda Medley, Moana Mash-up and Pop Sensation, interspersed with amazing dance performances from Urban Strides, incredible drumming by 13 year old Nandi Bushell and awesome rapping from MC Grammar! The children were an absolute credit to school, behaving brilliantly and singing with gusto throughout!
Do take a look at the short video below that shows what an amazing time the children had!

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse
Year 5 Courageousy Advocacy Worship
This week Year 5 put together a very thoughtful Courageous Advocacy worship focused on waste. The children explained the many ways that children can take action to recycle, reduce and reuse. They have a wealth of plans to ensure that Cathedral School is doing its part in protecting the resources within our world. The children filmed and edited a short movie all about the action that they intend to take. Do click on the link below to find out more.
Modern Day Commandments
Modern 10 Commandments
As part of our work exploring justice, as a school, we thought about the 10 Commandments. We looked at where they are in the Bible and thought about if we could modernise the commandments what they would be.
The children had some very interesting ideas for the new 10 Commandments!
1. Thou shalt hug people when they are sad. (R)
2. Thou shalt not spend too much time on the internet. (Y1)
3. Thou shalt not be unkind to other people - it is not nice. (Y2)
4. Thou shalt help your mummy and daddy. (Y4)
5. Thou shalt treat others like you would like to be treated. (Y3)
6. Thou shalt not use your phone when driving. (Y4)
7. Thou shalt help to stop wars and not create WW3. (Y5)
8. Thou shalt eat healthily not too much chocolate. (Y5)
9. Thou shalt protect the oceans, animals and humans. (Y6)
10. Thou shalt not put pineapple on pizza. (Y6)

Following on from our hedgehog visitor in Nursery last week, the children put their baking skills to the test by making hedgehog bread buns. What a fantastic effort! Well done Nursery.
