Gilberts Elementary
Week of October 21st
From The Principal's Desk
Dear Grizzly Families,
October is always a busy month for us. It is Bully Prevention month and we celebrate Disability Awareness Month. We have the district assessments for the end of the first quarter, and we have our PTO Trunk or Treat event on October 25. Then there is the highlight of the month with our Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 31. We are still in need of some assistance for the classroom parties. If you are interested you can sign up to help through the PTO website.
In addition to all of this, our Fall Book Fair is right around the corner. The Fall Book Fair will run from October 21-25. Please plan to join us on Thursday, October 24th in the evening for the Book Fair Family Night. More information regarding Family Night will be coming soon!
Our PTO Fundraiser with the Raise Craze continues but will end towards the beginning of the month. We are so appreciative for the partnership with the PTO and the success of this fundraiser. All funds raised will directly impact the students of Gilberts in many positive ways for years to come.
Our dedicated staff continues to do a wonderful job of working with students on a daily basis. Your support means the world to us. As we come to the conclusion of the first quarter I encourage you to write a letter or email of appreciation for your students' teachers. Highlighting or sharing the success that you see in your students always brings a smile to educators. As always, if we can be of any assistance please feel free to reach out.
Mr. Ruzinok
Principal

Picture Day
Picture Day will be held on Thursday, November 7th. Every student will have their picture taken for the yearbook, class picture, and lunch card. Dress your best!!!
Picture re-takes will be on Thursday, December 12th.
Weather
Cool weather has arrived and your students are expected to wear appropriate clothing to go outside. If you have younger students, please spend time with them practicing how to zipper their coats, put on their gloves, and put their boots on independently.
Nurse's Notes
As a reminder, Illinois law permits students to carry and possess inhalers to treat asthma. We highly encourage all students to have their inhalers with them at all times and to provide the school nurse with an additional back-up inhaler as well. We also ask you to please provide the school nurse with an Asthma Action Plan, signed by your healthcare provider. Asthma Action Plans are available on the D300 website under “Health Services.” Please contact Nurse Carrie at (224)484-5911 for additional questions or information.
Late Arrival
Late start morning student supervision begins at 9:50 a.m.
Buses unload at 9:50 a.m. Students who arrive by car on these mornings, should stay in their cars with families until 9:50 a.m. when adult supervision begins.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Please be careful when dropping off or picking up your child at school. Cars should arrive between 7:45 A.M. and 8:00 A.M. Supervision begins at 7:45 A.M. Students are marked tardy if they arrive after 8:05 A.M. The safety of our children is most important to us. The following is a list of safety concerns:
Please stay in the car line. Do not cut around the car line. Everyone is trying to drop-off or pick- up their child. Following the pick-up and drop-off lines does not take a long time if everyone obeys the rules.
· Pull all the way to the front of the car line.
· Do not exit your vehicle while in the car line.
· Do not leave your car unattended in the car line. If you need to get out of your car for any reason, please park in the front parking lot. Use the crosswalk and sidewalks to ensure visibility and safety.
· Give buses the right of way. Allow buses to enter and exit the parking lot ahead of you.
Remember to be safe and show each other courtesy when dropping off and picking up your child. The Gilberts Police Department does an excellent job of controlling traffic on Galligan Rd. Please know that there are times when the police officers are called away from the school and are unable to provide traffic control. Thank you for your cooperation.
