District to share fall reopening plans on Monday
The plans will be presented to the Board of Trustees at its regular monthly meeting Monday at 5 p.m. Seating at the Midtown Meeting Center is limited at this time due to social distancing. The meeting will be streamed live on our Facebook and YouTube pages.
The Board will accept written comments on the plan until Thursday, August 20, at 12 p.m. Comments may be emailed to Board Clerk Lynn Towne at ltowne@cdaschools.org. The Board is scheduled to vote on final approval of the reopening plans on August 24 at 5 p.m.
ONLINE SCHOOL - In addition to the reopening plans, the District will share details Monday of an online school option for any enrolled K-12 students this school year. The online school will be open to families who are not comfortable having their children attend classes in person. A two-week enrollment period will begin Monday.
Results of our back to school surveys available now
Earlier this month we invited you to take a survey to help us prepare for a safe return to school this fall. Now we invite you to review the results.
We received over 6,600 responses to our "Back to School" survey for parents, staff and students in middle and high schools between July 10 and July 24.
Feedback from all three surveys is available to review and compare HERE. You will see six pages of survey results, allowing you to review and compare the perspectives of parents, staff and students. Additionally, by clicking on any of the bright survey tiles on any page, you will be able to access a full data set for each individual survey.
You can navigate through these dashboards using the drop-down menu or arrows in the upper-left corner of each page. As you look at the pie charts, tap a color or point your mouse to a slice to see answer details.

Podcast: Superintendent discusses fall planning
How is the Coeur d'Alene School District preparing for the 2020-21 school year knowing that coronavirus is still a major concern for the health of the community, families, students, teachers and other school staff?
Superintendent Steven Cook is joined by Scott Maben, Director of Communications for Coeur d'Alene Public Schools, to discuss the District's work this summer to plan the reopening of our schools, including distance learning alternatives, various strategies to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and how this is affecting our students. They cover a lot of ground in this 80-minute episode, answering many of the questions being asked in our community right now.

District pauses non-fall sports activities
Coeur d'Alene Public Schools will pause all non-fall sports practices and conditioning from August 3 through August 21. This will allow us time to establish best practices and protocols for health and safety for our fall sports programs, and reduce the risk of virus transmission for fall athletes.
We will revisit this decision the week of August 17 to see if we can reinstate facility access for students in non-fall sports, or if we may need to continue this pause.
Free face mask distribution set for next week
In support of the community's Wear A Mask campaign, members of the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department will hand out free disposable masks next week at Lake City High School and Coeur d'Alene High School.
The masks will be distributed to area residents in a drive-through format on Thursday, August 6, and Friday, August 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
At Lake City, enter the north parking lot from West Hanley Avenue. At CHS, enter the south parking lot from N. 4th Street. Look for the fire engines.
We wish to thank our community partners for supporting measures to help control the spread of coronavirus.
