Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families-
It’s been a great week at Ridgeline High School! We celebrated our State Championship volleyball team on Tuesday in grand fashion! We began with a school-wide parade culminating with the presentation of the trophy with the team on center stage in the commons! It was pretty amazing to showcase our champs in front of over a thousand Falcon students and staff. Very exciting and inspiring event! You can watch the whole thing on our YouTube channel at the link below. The team was honored to attend our Central Valley School Board meeting last Monday night. The celebration and recognition from our Board of Directors and Superintendent Parker was another special moment for the team! (pictured above)
Over the weekend our Dance Team took second in their first competition of the season. They will also be hosting our first-ever Winter Dance Showcase with regional schools, right here at Ridgeline tonight—see details below. Promises to be a very entertaining event!
Also last weekend over 28 DECA students qualified for State in numerous individual and team events! Winter sports are off to a great start for our basketball, wrestling, and gymnastics teams. We hosted our one gymnastics home event of the year and celebrated senior night already this week! Two more months before we celebrate the other winter sports seniors. The Debate team will be battling multiple schools in a showdown at Shadle Park! Best of luck to our Cheer Squad and Robotics team as they compete in their respective competitions this weekend. It’s not Cheer vs Robots, although that would be very entertaining and I would put my money on the cheerleaders!
On the Academic front, this coming Monday, Dec. 16, is our third Progress Reporting day.
Gradebooks should be up-to-date and students should have a good idea of their standing going into the winter break. This is the final progress report of the first semester, which ends on Jan. 31, 2025.
Please consider joining the RHS Booster Club! There is often a mis-conception about what the booster club does for our school. The prevailing thought is that they are there to support athletics and extra-curriculars only. That’s not wrong—because they do provide significant support for many of the “extras” provided to our students in activities and athletics. In addition, they also support Senior activities and graduation, free entry for students to playoff games, a variety of luncheons and deserts for club celebrations, garden club, blanket night, a die-cut machine, robotics, students-in-need, meals for staff celebrations, and much more! Click this link here https://swipesimple.com/links/lnk_925f2d70 to join today! You can also sign up below and donate a little to help with the Boosters in the concession stand this winter. Nice indoor gig-- no membership required to work concessions!
In our final week before the break, we’re showing our winter/holiday spirit! The Spirit Day calendar of events is below, and we’ll cap off the week on Friday with a festive holiday spirit assembly!

Student Services
FAFSA NOW OPEN!
If you are the parent/guardian of a current senior who plans to enroll in college next year, this notice is for you! The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is NOW OPEN. The FAFSA is an online federal form that, once completed, will offer your student the opportunity to be considered for grants, work-study, scholarships, and student loans at the colleges and universities to which they've applied. For your information, here is an important link with information your student and you may wish to review ahead of filing the form.
Additionally, RHS hosts a local scholarship page we share with East Valley, West Valley, and Freeman school districts. We will update the scholarship page as scholarships become available throughout the winter/spring. I encourage your student to routinely check the page for scholarship opportunities that may benefit your student!
It is not often that scholarship offers target juniors, but the EWI, Spokane Chapter offers three scholarship awards ($3000.00, $4000.00, and $6000.00) to eligible students (male or female).
If you have a current high school junior with a 3.0 GPA or higher who may be interested in being considered for these awards, PLEASE HAVE YOUR STUDENT SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING TO MR. SPRAGGINS ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, JANUARY 10:
- 250-word Essay addressing the following question: What are your educational and professional goals and what inspired you to set them?
- Activities Resume (include items like volunteerism, community service, sports, clubs, leadership positions, part-time jobs, etc.)
Members of the RHS counseling team will evaluate the submitted materials and nominate three Juniors who will be invited to represent RHS and submit scholarship applications.
There aren’t many guarantees around anymore, but one that may be of interest to Washington students and their families is the Washington Guaranteed Admission Program (WAGAP). In a nutshell, Washington high school students who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and meet their College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs), are guaranteed admission to each of Washington’s public 4-year colleges and universities (except the UW-Seattle and Bothell)! On December 10, most RHS juniors and seniors received in their student emails a message from the WAGAP outlining the program; parents/guardians will receive a similar message in the weeks ahead.
If you are the parent/guardian of a senior applying to colleges/universities with application deadlines between December 20th and January 6th, note that we have communicated to your seniors the reality that RHS will be closed over the break and teachers and counselors will be unavailable to address application support needs. With just a week before the Winter break begins, we have strongly encouraged your seniors who need anything to connect with their teachers and counselors three weeks ago!

Whopping Cough Letter to Parents
12/13/2024
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Spokane Regional Health District has seen an increased number of whooping cough (pertussis) cases throughout Spokane County. Whooping cough is an infection that affects the airways and can easily spread from person to person by coughing or sneezing. Whooping cough can cause a severe cough that lasts for weeks or months, sometimes leading to coughing fits or vomiting. Anyone can get whooping cough, but it can be very dangerous for babies and people with certain health conditions. In addition to whooping cough, there has also been increased incidence of ‘walking pneumonia’ throughout the United States this year compared to previous years. And of course, the common cold, flu, COVID-19, and RSV tend to circulate more in the colder months.
What You Can Do:
· Keep your child home if they’re sick
o If your child has a cough, keep them home from school and activities and schedule a healthcare appointment.
o If diagnosed with whooping cough, provide a note from the healthcare provider and keep your child home until they’ve been on antibiotics for 5 days.
o If the diagnosis is not whooping cough, request a note from the provider to allow your child to return to school and activities.
o Other reasons to keep your child home:
§ Fever over 100.4°F with symptoms like sore throat, rash, or earache.
§ Strep throat (fever-free and on antibiotics for 24 hours).
§ Vomiting or diarrhea (at least 24 hours symptom-free).
· Stay up to date on vaccinations
o Ensure your family is vaccinated against whooping cough. If your student did not receive a Tdap immunization after age 10, they are out of compliance with immunization requirements for school attendance.
o If it’s been 8 years since your last Tdap booster (or primary series), talk to your provider about getting a booster.
· Practice good hygiene
o Make sure your child washes their hands well after using the bathroom, coughing, sneezing, playing outside, and before eating.
If you have any questions, contact your healthcare provider or the Spokane Regional Health District at 509-324-1442.
Sincerely,
Heather Graham, MSN RN

Mini Gymnastics Camp (K-6)
Ridgeline gymnastics is offering a mini-gymnastics camp for all students K through 6th grade on Thursday, January 16th and Friday, January 17th, from 5:30 to 7:30 in the gymnastics room (west side of Ridgeline High School). Our gymnastics team and coaches will teach basic tumbling and dance skills on floor, how to balance on the beam, and basic skills on the bars. The cost is $50.00 and includes a T-shirt.
Please Identify your dancer's T-shirt sizes using one of the following: YS (youth small), YM (youth medium), YL (youth large), YXL (youth extra-large), AXS (adult extra small), AS (adult small), AM (adult medium), AL (adult Large), AXL (adult XL). Any other sizing identifications will be given the best guess by the T-shirt company. We order to specific requests of each individual family, so there won't be additional sizes for trading. We have to run our order through Dec. 27th in order to get them in time, so any sign ups beyond that date are not guaranteed a shirt. Thank you for understanding.
