Tashua Family Weekly Update
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
June 6, 2025
Dear Tashua Families,
We had many festive events as we closed out the final full week here at Tashua School. Our field trips and end-of-the-year celebrations continued throughout the week for students, staff and families! As a reminder, our last day of school will be Wednesday, June 11th. Both this day and June 10th will be early release days at 1:00 PM.
Grade 5 Field Trip to Wolfe Park
In addition, our fifth grade students celebrated the end of the year at Wolfe Park. Please note, Tashua's Fifth Grade Stepping Up Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 11th at 9:30am. Please access the information by clicking the link: Grade 5 Stepping Up Information
Visit from the Tashua Class of 2018
Another highlight of the week was a visit form Tashua's Class of 2018 who will graduate from Trumbull High School on Tuesday as Class or 2025! It was a beautiful reminder of where their educational journey began and that “Once a Tashua TIGER, always a Tashua TIGER!”
A Note from Mrs. Hatstat, Literacy Consultant
Our first book swap, New Looks for Summer Books, was a huge success on Thursday. Each student was able to take at least one new book home to get their summer reading off to a great start. Thank you to all of the families and teachers who donated some really great books for students to choose.
We kicked off the swap by explaining to students that if they didn't play a sport for two months then their skills would decline. We connected that with no reading for two months and how the same decline can happen if we don't read over the summer. Just like we prioritize sports, swimming, and other summer activities, we also need to prioritize reading.
Students were shown the digital reading log that will be sent home via email to parents to keep track of the number of books read this summer. They were also shown reading lists that are available for each grade on the Trumbull Public Schools website. In addition, students were encouraged to visit the public library to check out books and participate in their fun summer reading program. Students left excited and motivated to read!
Yearbooks have Arrived!
All 5th grade students that ordered a yearbook will receive their yearbook today, Friday June 6th. All other students who have ordered a yearbook will receive it on Monday, June 9th. The PTA has made available a LIMITED number of additional yearbooks for sale on a first come first serve basis. Yearbooks must be ordered through the Tashua PTA Membership Toolkit using the link:
Summer Reading Opportunities
The summer is a great time for rest, relaxation, and reading! To prevent a "summer slide," students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes a day. There are a few great reading challenges we encourage students to participate in over the summer to help keep their reading muscles strong. To learn more about summer reading opportunities (including the Trumbull Public Library Summer Reading Program and First Selectman's Challenge) please use the link: Summer Reading Overview
Tashua Summer Reading Bingo
Bingo cards with instructions will be going home with all of our students in grades kindergarten to fourth grade. This is a fun, optional activity for students to do this summer. The sheets are meant to be colored if students would enjoy decorating them. Please contact Mrs.McKenna at smckenna@trumbullps.org if you should have any questions. You can find a copy of the bingo card using the link: 2025 Summer Bingo Card
Summer Math Opportunities
The summer is also a great time for keeping your math skills sharp. Trumbull Public Schools has provided details on summer math packets, enrichment websites, and the CT Commissioner’s Summer Math Challenge. For more information, please use the link: Summer Math Smore
Tashua's Diversity Committee: Caribbean American Heritage Month
In June 2005, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted H. Con. Res. 71, sponsored by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, recognizing the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. On February 14, 2006, the resolution similarly passed the Senate, culminating a two-year, bipartisan, and bicameral effort. The Proclamation was issued by President George W. Bush on June 6, 2006. Since the declaration, the White House has issued an annual proclamation recognizing June as Caribbean-American Heritage Month.
The campaign to designate June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month was spearheaded by Dr. Claire Nelson, Founder, and President of the Institute of Caribbean Studies. Through the commemoration of this month, we hope to ensure that America is reminded that its greatness lies in its diversity, with Caribbean immigrants from founding father Alexander Hamilton to journalist Malcolm Gladwell, who have shaped the American dream.

It’s as easy as logging onto Supplies To Please, clicking on “Place Your Order” and using the credentials below:
Username: Tashua
Password: tash2025
Make sure that you are selecting the grade your child is going into for NEXT year. There is also an option to provide a monetary donation.
Orders can be taken up to June 18th and picking up the supplies will happen in August! We will not be purchasing any spare kits so act quickly and order your kit today!
