November 2024
Dear Simpson Parents,
Happy November! It was wonderful to see many of you last month during the Early Release Parent-Teacher Conferences. This is always such a valuable time for you to talk with the teacher to see how your child is progressing both academically and socially. I am confident you will find this time helpful to you. Early Release conferences are held twice a year. The next early release days will be held on March 5-6, 2025. We will again be scheduling conferences online. Also, the Parent Portal is a great way for you to stay informed about your child’s academic progress 24 hours a day/7 days a week. You can monitor student assignments and assessments if you have a child in grades 1st – 5th. Finally, in the true essence of Thanksgiving, we are truly grateful for our amazing Simpson Elementary PTA. Throughout the year they sponsor grab-and-go Chic-fil-A Lunches during parent conference week, plan spectacular festivals, support funding for classroom supplies, and numerous staff appreciation events. Many thanks again for making our Simpson Staff feel so valued and appreciated. Have a wonderful upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Proud to be your principal,
Dr. Connery

Calling all Simpson Elementary International Families
Dear parents,
If your family identifies with any international culture or loves learning about other cultures, and would like to meet more families like you. We have set up a Facebook group 'Simpson international families' group - to connect with more families and stay in touch over the school breaks as well. We are also open to home-schooling/charter school families within the Simpson school zone.
Together the Simpson international families can support and enrich each other's lives and create a nurturing group for the students to learn the world's geographies, languages, and cultures. I also want to thank Ms. Muzna Mirza, Ms. Jocelyn Shieh, Ms. Yillia Zhang, and Mr. Dong Yan who also hosted our first 'international table' during the 2024 Fall Festival at Simpson Elementary. We are so grateful for all of their support in bringing additional awareness of cultural artifacts and samples from all over the world for our students to explore during the festival. Please see the photos attached for details and if interested, please join the Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/simpson.international.families/ or email muz.jon@gmail.com to learn more. ~ Dr. Connery

What is PBIS?
At its heart, PBIS calls on teachers to teach kids about behavior, just as they would teach about any other subject—like reading or math. PBIS recognizes that kids can only meet behavior expectations if they know what the expectations are. An indicator of a school using PBIS is that everyone knows what’s appropriate behavior. Throughout the school day—in class, at lunch, and on the bus—students understand what’s expected of them
Supporting PBIS at Home
Nurture your child's self-esteem. A child with a good sense of self is happier, well adjusted, and does better in school. Strategies for fostering self-esteem include giving your child responsibilities, allowing them to make age appropriate choices, and showing your appreciation for a job well done.
Foundational Elements of Families in PBIS
- Building positive relationships
- Engaging in two-way communication
- Ensuring equitable family representation
- Making meaningful data-driven decisions
