Greetings Team Bridgetown! This week we will be continuing with our book, “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry” and be having Writer’s Workshop for the 1st summative assessment. We will be writing a scene that incorporates the skills we have been working on so far: figurative language, sensory language, and point of view. The assessment is due at the end of class on Tuesday. Students received their paper bags for their first book project on Friday and should be working on their projects at home. Additionally, there is reading homework that students will receive on Wednesday to turn in on Tuesday October 15.
*Please note that all class notes and worksheets are on the Canvas page. *

Hi Team Bridgetown,
Next week, we will begin with a plate tectonics lab, followed by a reading session on Tuesday. On Wednesday, our focus will shift to roots, as we will administer roots quiz 1.6 on October 9. With no school on Thursday and Friday, we will also take this opportunity to review for the roots summative assessment scheduled for Tuesday, October 15. This assessment will encompass all root words covered to date. I kindly ask for your support in encouraging students to study over the long weekend. Blooket links for additional practice are available on Canvas. Furthermore, students will receive a roots words study guide for homework (also accessible digitally on Canvas), which is due on Tuesday, October 15.

This week we students will wrap up their DC Community Action Letters. Students have been hard at work brainstorming issues affecting neighborhoods of DC and writing letters to advocate solutions to DC government. They will choose to address their letters to either the Mayor’s office, DC Council, or their local ANC.
Optional HW: Bring in a business letter sized envelope with a stamp.
**If you can donate extras of these supplies, we will be able to share with others so everyone can mail their letters!**

The library orientations have completed for all students! Most students have now checked out at least one book from the library! 6th grade students should be almost ready to return their books if they haven't already. Notices will go out next week for 6th students who have overdue materials and over the following two weeks for 7th and 8th graders.
Students are able to see their current loans by accessing their library accounts through the Clever app called "Destiny Discover". They can follow the process below to see items that they have checked out:
Log into Clever (clever.com/in/dcpsk12)
Search "Destiny Discover" or navigate to the Library Resources section and click on the icon.
Click on the "My Stuff" link at the top of the screen to see any items that are checked out.
Students who have lost materials or see items that may be linked to their account by mistake should speak with Mr. Reichlen.
There are no fines or penalties for lost materials. Donations of hard cover titles of middle school-age-appropriate works in good condition are always accepted if families are able to replace lost materials.
When to visit:
