Lil Steamer Families --
Today's note is a bit more personal and I hope you enjoy and appreciate it. Each Friday, our staff has a "Tell Me Something Good" email chain utilizing our Capturing Kids Hearts framework. I don't know if this is really a good thing, but it's definitely a good laugh!
Mom: You heard him, Jerry. No more secrets. Tell him what happened.
Pops: What?!
Mom: You know what.
Pops: Oh, that.
JAGH: So... what happened?
* For context, Pops is not allowed to use stairs yet so he walks out the front door, gets in his car, and drives it around out back so he can get into the garage and basement
Pops: Well the other day, I was out back because I was working in the garage. After I put the walker in the hatch of the car, I pressed the button to close it. It came down fast so I tried stepping out of the way and tripped and fell.
JAGH: Are you okay? How did you land?
Pops: I'M FINE!!! I landed in the grass and nothing else happened.
Mom: That's not all that happened. He had to yell for Derrick and Sue (neighbors) to come help him up.
JAGH: I'm glad you're okay and that they helped.
Mom: I wanted to tell you, Jeffrey, but your father swore me to secrecy! He made Derrick and Sue swear to keep it a secret from you, too!
JAGH: ... I feel like I'm back at school talking with 5 and 6 year olds again! Mom, what was the RIGHT thing to do?
Mom: Well, keep the secret.
JAGH: You've got to be kidding me... Pops, what was the RIGHT thing to do?
Pops: Well, tell you I guess.
JAGH: Why didn't you?
Pops: BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT YOU TO CHEW MY BUTT AGAIN!!!!
Conclusion: My 84-year old mother and 89-year old father have somehow reverse aged by 80 years.

As I visit classrooms this month, we will focus on building a positive classroom community and promoting positive peer relationships. We will share some of our interests and discuss the importance of listening with attention. It never hurts to review listening skills with your children. Good listeners focus on the speaker’s words, ask questions to find out more, repeat back what they have heard, and never interrupt. It’s respectful to listen with attention as it helps you to learn and shows that you care about what others have to say.
