SHOOTING SPORTS UPDATE
Dear Shooting Sports participants,
The 2020 Cass County Shooting Sports contest (originally postponed from July 25) has now been CANCELLED. Between the delay in starting the season, rising COVID cases in our county, NGPC shooting sports range construction delays, and inability for youth to practice with leaders to develop their firearm skills, our office in conjunction with the Shooting Sports Superintendents has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s shooting sports contest. Please be in contact with your club leader and plan to join us next year for the 2021 season. If you or your club has any questions, please reach out to our office via email or phone.

OTHER LIVESTOCK UPDATES
- All animals will be shown off of trailers with only minimal pens available for swine, sheep or goats. We highly encourage 4-Hers to show off of their trailer, but if an exhibitor chooses to use a pen, they must clean-up and sanitize it after use. Reminder: as always checks will be held for exhibitors who don’t clean their pens.
- Trailer spaces on the fairgrounds are first come, first serve
- You may park anywhere on the grounds, but please maintain a 6’ distance between households and pick-up after your animals. You might consider bringing a wheelbarrow and rake to make your clean-up easier. The fairgrounds are beautiful and we want to keep it that way!
- Immediate family (parents/legal guardians, siblings, grandparents of exhibitors at the shows only. For those that cannot attend - follow us on Facebook to watch shows live @UNLCassCounty
Show updates and class lineup will be announced on the fairgrounds PA system to accommodate those that are parked further out from the barn.

CASS COUNTY 4-H PREMIUM SALE
Ag Society Members, 4-H Council Members, and volunteers have worked diligently to ensure Cass County 4-H members have the opportunity to participate in the Livestock Premium Sale this year. Although the sale will look different than it has in years past, we have worked to provide a high quality experience for members and bidders. Below are changes that members can expect for this year's Premium Sale:
1. Members are required to pre-register for the Premium Sale through the Pre-entry System. If you did not designate that your animal will be a part of the Premium Sale in the system, notify Extension Staff no later than August 1 to be added to the sale.
2. No live animals will be present for the sale. There will be a professional photographer on the fairgrounds each day that a Premium Sale eligible animal is showing to take photos of the animals and exhibitors that are participating in the sale. Any animal that will be a part of the Premium Sale will be required to have a photo taken of the exhibitor and the animal at that time. No photos may be submitted by the 4-H member for the sale. Times that the photographer will be available each day of the fair will be announced July 31 in the Friday Newsblast.
3. Note: Youth that would like their photo taken with their non-Premium Sale animal may also have the photographer take their photo. Digital copies of photos can be secured from Extension Staff beginning August 17. Digital professional photos will be complimentary to 4-H members thanks to the Cass County 4-H Council.
4. We will host the Premium Sale on Sunday, August 16th at 4:00pm in the Expo Building on the Fairgrounds. The professional photos taken of Premium Sale animals and exhibitors will be projected on a screen as each animal is auctioned off.
5. The Premium Sale will run like a regular auction with a LIVE, in-person format as well as an on-line (Zoom link) with a call-in bids option. We will also accept advanced bids this year. The advanced bids can be called in or emailed to Krystl Knabe, Auction Superintendent. The in-person sale will be set-up to encourage 6ft social distancing between bidders. Zoom connection information and call-in phone numbers will be available in the July 31 Friday Newsblast. Past bidders will be mailed a postcard with this information.
6. Only registered bidders may attend the Live Premium Sale. Unfortunately, due to social distancing recommendations, 4-H members may not attend the Premium Sale. We understand that 4-H members want to personally thank buyers but during this unique time we encourage members to personally call and thank the buyer and/or send a thank you note to the buyer following the sale. We encourage youth to watch the sale via the Zoom link from home. The buyer will be announced following the sale of each animal.
Feel free to reach out to Auction Superintendent, Krystl Knabe, with any questions. She can be reached at 402-874-1934 or at krystl.knabe@gmail.com.

👉4-H VIRTUAL PROJECT SHOWCASE👈
2020 is a unique year and we are so proud of the work 4-H youth have done across the state despite challenging circumstances. We want to honor the work our youth have done by providing a platform to highlight their exceptional projects and the valuable learning opportunities they have experienced. We would like to introduce a Nebraska 4-H Virtual Project Showcase opportunity for all 4-H members across the state! We invite all enrolled youth to submit any 4-H project (static, animal projects, contests, etc.) for showcase with which they have learned a lot from this year or that they are particularly proud of, regardless of the award it received through judging or the ability to have that project judged at the county level.
About the 4-H Virtual Project Showcase:
- Any 4-H enrolled youth of regular 4-H age statewide, can submit one project to highlight for their year.
- A complete submission will include:
o Name, Age, County, project area they are choosing to highlight
o Description of their project
o 1 photo of their project
o Why they chose to highlight that particular project?
o What did they learn from completing their 4-H project(s) in 2020?
- How will photos and quotes be used: Photos, along with some quotes, gathered through submission process are tentatively planned to showcase digitally during the 2020 Nebraska State Fair (location TBD), be share on social media, and displayed in the Pick Your Project.
- Submissions due: for a chance to be showcased at the Nebraska State Fair, submit by August 10th
- To submit a project or to learn more: Visit https://4h.unl.edu/project-showcase
