The Freedom Phenom
October 2024
PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
Happy Fall, Freedom Families!
I hope this newsletter finds each of you well and unfazed by last week’s weather event as much as possible. As the temperature cools down—we hope—learning and growth must heat up in October. This month is a pivotal time as much will be accomplished in classes because there are few interruptions from here until Thanksgiving. It is imperative that your student be present as much as is possible. With cold & flu season getting ready to start, please remind your student(s) to wash his/her hands and avoid sharing drinks with one another. We want everyone to be healthy and ready to learn as much as possible. As always, please let us know how we can better serve your student. Feel free to reach out anytime.
All the best,
Chad Flatt, Ed.D
Principal

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Dear Freedom Families,
The holiday season is quickly approaching. As a result, we want to reach out to our families to remind you that we can help connect you to resources and organizations if you are in need of assistance this holiday season. We are always able to give referrals to our families who are in need, but we have additional resources available over the holidays. Please contact the counseling office by Friday, November 8th if you would like more information about the programs available. In the meantime, here are a few programs that offer holiday assistance. Please reach out as soon as possible because they fill up fast.
- Hope For Christmas (see attached flyers)
- Must Ministries Toy Shop: https://www.mustministries.org/toy-shop
- First Baptist Woodstock Caring Christmas: Contact Mrs. Bigelow as soon as possible if you would like to utilize this resource. She will provide you with a letter in order to make an appointment.

EXP TUTORING
Our free tutoring program will begin Tuesday morning, October 1st! Teachers will be available for free tutoring on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings beginning at 8:00 am. Students can attend for any subject or any purpose – whether it’s working on raising a grade, turning in missing assignments, getting organized, or completing a project. If you wish for your student to attend, please fill out the attached permission form and have them check into the front office at 8:00 am. Students are welcome to attend as many or as few days as they wish, and do not have to arrive exactly at 8:00 – tutoring will go until 8:45 each morning.
If you have any questions about the tutoring program, please reach out to cassie.fainter@cherokeek12.net.
MAD ABOUT MATH
7th Grade did a 3 Act Math Task – titled “Deep Freeze”. We investigated how much a glacier would sink after 5 years if it followed the same pattern in the video. Students were asked to “visual display their math to show how they calculated their answers.”

Spanish Cultures
We are finishing our Back-to-School Unit with a drawing project. Students drew a classroom and labeled the items in Spanish.

REPORT TIPS ABOUT SCHOOL SAFETY
The Cherokee County School District offers the Vector Alert (formerly SafeSchools Alert) system for reporting safety concerns. The Vector Alert system allows students, parents, school staff and everyone in the community to anonymously report safety concerns by text, email, online message or phone call.
Through Vector Alert, you can submit safety concerns to CCSD five different ways:

- By Email: 1695@alert1.us
- By Online message: https://cherokee-ga.safeschoolsalert.com/
- By Mobile App – Download the Vector Alert app for free from the iPhone App Store and Google Play for Android phones. The app icon is a red and white checkmark/V on a blue background.
