New Infoâť—
Youth Risk Behavior Survey
On Tuesday, February 4, students in grades 7-12 will participate in the bi-annual Youth Risk Behavior Survey offered by the state of Wisconsin. The survey is completely anonymous and provides the district and county with information around the health habits of students. We use the survey information to guide health programming to best support student needs.
More information is in the attached document. If you choose to allow your student to participate, no further action is needed. If you choose NOT to allow your student to participate, please return the attached document with your signature to the Jr/Sr High School office by 8:00am on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025.

Zander Jones Scores his 1000th Point
Congratulations to Montello senior Zander Jones on scoring his 1000th career point in WIAA basketball! Zander achieved this milestone during the Jan. 20 game versus Valley Christian.
JD Gonzales Wins 1st Place in WI ProStart Holiday Cookie Decorating Contest
JD Gonzalez, a junior at Montello High School, won 1st place in the Wisconsin ProStart Holiday Cookie Decorating Contest. ProStart students throughout the state of Wisconsin had to create an original holiday-themed decorated cookie. JD took 1st place in the entire state of Wisconsin for his Winter Wonderland Globe Cookie.
This marks back to back years that Montello High School has won 1st and 2nd place in the Wisconsin ProStart Holiday Cookie Decorating Contest. JD's cookie impressed the judges so much this year that they actually reached out to ProStart teacher, Sam Lloyd, inquiring how JD made his cookie and also wanted to confirm that a high school student actually made this cookie. Congratulations, JD, on your 1st place state finish!
Winter Snowball Dance
The Class of 2027 hosted our winter formal Snowball Dance on January 11. Our students had a wonderful time dancing the night away!
Semester 1 Report Cards
We have seen many absences in our student body recently due to cold, flu, and norovirus, so several students needed additional time to complete their final exams. Teachers have been working with individual students to schedule their exam make-ups. As a result, Semester 1 report cards will not be mailed until Feb. 4. You can view your student's final grade in the courses they have completed in Infinite Campus.
Upcoming Education with Dept. Lloyd
We will be hosting Deputy Lloyd from the Marquette County Sheriff's Department in our health classes in grades 7-9 in February. Dept. Lloyd will be talking with students about how to be safe and responsible on social media.
Magazines Wanted for ELA Class
We are looking for recent magazines in good condition for use with our high school ELA students. If you have any recent magazines (less than a year old) focused on high-interest topics like travel, food, or hunting, please send them to school with your student to drop off at the Jr/Sr High School Office.
Use of Body Sprays at School
Body sprays and perfumes can trigger asthma and breathing problems for students with allergies. Students are certainly welcome to wear deodorant/antiperspirant and reapply as needed at school, but body sprays and perfumes should not be sprayed at school.

Updates to District Policy Re: Class Rank
Due to the implementation of the Direct Admit Wisconsin program to simplify the college application process within the UW System, the Montello School District Policy 5430 regarding determination of class rank has been updated. Please see below:
The class rank for students completing 11th grade shall be based on the GPA calculated pursuant to this policy and shall identify students in the top five percent (5%) and the top ten percent (10%) of the class. Once the class rank is established, the District Administrator shall notify each student ranked in the top ten percent (10%) of their ranking in either the top five percent (5%) or ten percent (10%) of the class and shall note the applicable ranking on the student's transcript as of the completion of grade 11.
Grade point average for purposes of the Wisconsin Academic Scholarship program will be calculated using the determinations made in this policy and in Policy 5451.01 – Wisconsin Academic Excellence Scholarship.
The class rank for determining Valedictorian and Salutatorian shall be based on the GPA calculated pursuant to this policy after the completion of grade 12.
Operation Backpack
The Montello School District is proud to work alongside our families to help our kids be their best! This is one of the reasons why we maintain a food pantry at school and provide a bag or pack of food choices to assist our students through weekends and holiday breaks. We call this Operation Backpack, and we are here to help.
If your student and/or family is in need of food support, please let us know! Complete this form to sign up. Operation Backpack will supply some simple food options on the last day of the school week, usually on a Friday. The bag or pack will be delivered to your student’s classroom for the child to take home and use. Bags or backpacks should be returned to school on Monday so they can be quarantined before the next use. The bags or packs will be sent to the same family each week. This program is open to all students and families; there are no limitations.
School Fees - Online Payment Option
There are annual Registration and Technology fees due each year on September 1st. For your convenience, these fees can be paid in the school office, and now also online through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal. You can also pay for your child's sports participation fee, school parking permit, athletic pass, and other optional fees. Any questions or for help logging into your parent portal account, please contact our District Registrar, Elizabeth Smith.
