Tips for Parent & Co-Parents:
Adjusting for Daylight Saving Time (March 9, 2025) ⏰
Daylight Saving Time can be challenging for both parents and kids, but a little preparation can make the transition easier. Here are some parenting and co-parenting tips to help:
🌙 Parenting Tips:
✅ Gradually Shift Bedtime: Start adjusting bedtime by 10-15 minutes earlier each night leading up to March 9 to help your child’s internal clock adjust.
✅ Keep a Consistent Routine: Maintain bedtime rituals (reading, bath time, dimming lights) to signal that it’s time to wind down.
✅ Be Extra Patient: Kids may feel cranky or tired—allow for a little flexibility as they adjust.
🤝 Co-Parenting Tips:
✅ Keep Communication Simple & Neutral: If necessary, send a short, factual message: “Reminder: The time change is this Sunday. I’ll be keeping bedtime consistent on my end to help with the transition.” Avoid arguing if they don’t follow suit.
✅ Document Concerns (If needed): If sleep disruptions impact your child’s well-being (chronic exhaustion, school struggles), keep notes and communicate with professionals if necessary.
✅ Focus on What You Can Control: If the other parent doesn’t prioritize sleep routines, focus on making your home a stable and restful environment. Kids are resilient and will adapt over time.
✅ Limit Discussions About the Other Parent: If your child expresses frustration about different rules, acknowledge their feelings without badmouthing the other parent. You can say, “I know it’s hard when routines are different. Let’s focus on helping your body feel rested while you’re here.”
Even if routines differ between households, maintaining consistency, patience, and reassurance in your home will help your child adjust. Whether you’re parenting solo or co-parenting—high conflict or not—your efforts to provide stability will make a difference!
