Need to Know
MS Closing Celebration! We are delighted to celebrate the end of the year with Grade 7&8 students and parents from 4-5pm on Thursday, June 13! Each student is invited to bring a maximum of 2 guests. After a brief closing in Coristine Hall, light refreshments will be served. Students must be wearing their full school uniform, including the SHS blazer. We expect all Grade 8 students to attend and arrive between 3:30-3:45pm to receive instructions. Grade 7 students are highly encouraged to attend. Please inform Ms. Beech if your son (and guests) WILL NOT be able to join us for this event.
Middle School Athletic Celebration: Selwyn House is thrilled to celebrate the 2023-24 athletic year in a year-end ceremony with all MS students, staff and coaches from 3-4:30pm on Monday, June 3 in Coristine Hall. Parents are invited to join us as we honour award winners and share memories from the year. A light reception will follow the ceremony. Parents are asked to RSVP here by May 31 if you plan to attend. All Grade 7&8 students are expected to attend in full uniform with blazer.
McEntyre Creative Writing Competition: Each year many of our students participate in this competition organized by the Westmount Library. Congratulations to all who participated and to Lucas Cheung for earning an Honourable Mention in the Grade 8 division! Westmount Library will hold a ceremony for all winners on May 29.
Congratulations to our track and field athletes who qualified and represented Selwyn House at the GMAA championship earlier this week: Nikolai Maistrenko, Oliver Sierra Veilleux, Zachary Kiriazidis (1st-1200m), Jackson Wilkins (3rd-1200m and 2nd-2000m-Cadet), and Ezekiel Ifejeh (1st-shot put-Cadet). Congratulations also to all our track athletes who participated at the GMAA Halo race on Mount Royal earlier this month. Go Gryphons!
Congrats to our Bantam Ultimate Frisbee team for bringing home the GMAA Bantam championship banner after winning all four games in Tuesday’s tournament. A special shout out to Cruse Valle Deegan who received a frisbee honouring the sportsmanship player of the game and to Tristan Kaulbach, who won the MVP banner for his performance throughout the tournament. All players received gold medals and the glory of bringing the championship banner to Selwyn House!
No breakfast service in Coristine Hall on May 24 and June 5. Our last day of breakfast services will be June 7.
Grade 8 Science Lab Exam: On Thursday, June 6 Grade 8 students will have their lab exam between 1:30-2:45pm. Please refrain from scheduling appointments for students during that time!
The MS Study Challenge is designed to help students prepare for end-of-year assessments taking place throughout the months of May and June. Students can participate in the study challenges at any time, but weekly participation is encouraged for maximum benefit…and prizes! Follow this link and complete this week’s MS Study Challenge.

Middle School Closing Celebration for Grade 7&8 students, parents and staff on Thursday June 13 from 4-5pm.
Middle School Dance May 24: Grade 7&8 students are invited to this inter-school event taking place on Friday, May 24 7-10pm at Selwyn House. Advance ticket sales only ($5 admission), at Ms. Beech’s office. Snacks will be sold at the dance, doors will close at 8pm.
Selwyn House Yearbook Ads: Yearbook recognition ads are a great way for families to commemorate student achievements and important milestones personalized with your own sentimental message and a cherished photo or photo collage. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’ll last forever. To purchase your ad online, follow the instructions listed in this link. Please note there is limited space, so please be sure to claim your ad space in the book as soon as possible! All ad orders MUST be placed by June 1. Please do not contact or send materials to the school, the ads are all done through the Jostens website.
Intergenerational Tea with Contactivity: The PVA co-chairs are still looking for a few more volunteer bakers for the end-of-year Intergenerational Tea with Contactivity on June 3. Please sign up here if you would like to bake for this event.
Valley of the Birdtail Book Event - June 4 - Sign up to attend! June is National Indigenous History Month and Selwyn parents are invited to meet author and Old Boy Andrew Stobo Sniderman, Class of 2001, who co-wrote Valley of the Birdtail: an Indian Reserve, a White Town, and the Road to Reconciliation. Please join us on Tuesday, June 4 at 7pm for refreshments and food from Screaming Chef Cuisine (Chef Ryland Diome ‘06) and a talk about the themes of the book as we explore reconciliation and calls to action. You don’t need to have read the book to join! Please sign up here. Friends and neighbours are also welcome to attend! If you would like to read the book, there are a limited number of copies available at reception for $20 cash. Donations for Selwyn’s Indigenization Program are welcome via this link or at the door.
