Message from Superintendent Clenchy
Greetings!
This year has moved along at an incredible pace - it is difficult to believe that the end of the school year is weeks away - and that the summer months are on the horizon!
Graduation activities are in full swing! Our Seniors are preparing for their graduation ceremony, while ensuring that they take full advantage of this last opportunity to connect with friends and build final memories with their classmates, prior to the school year ending. Multiple activities are planned that include a banquet, picnic, rehearsals, yearbook signing, Scholarship Night, and the Senior Walk through.
The Senior Walkthrough activity began last year, and is a special opportunity for our graduates to walk through their elementary and middle schools one last time prior to graduation. The staff and students in the individual schools line up outside of their classrooms and celebrate the graduates as they walk the hallways with applause and high-fives, and lots of vocal notes of congratulations! It is a special event and one I especially look forward to.
At this time of year, we also celebrate those staff who are leaving us and heading into the next phase of their life journey - retirement. We want to express our profound appreciation to all staff who have served Nauset Public Schools in their roles for many, many years and have decided to move to a new phase. A lifetime of working in education is a commitment and dedication to doing your best to serve children in our communities. Our NPS staff is exemplary, and we will miss those who have decided to leave us at the end of this year, and we are most appreciative of their service to the district and all they have done to make a difference for our students. We are including the list of retirees in this newsletter. We thank each of them, and wish them the very, very best in their next life chapter.
We would like to acknowledge and commend Susannah Remillard on the recent announcement and recognition by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education of her attainment of MA Teacher of the Year Semifinalist status. Ms. Remillard teaches at Nauset Regional Middle School. It is an honor to be nominated for this award - and the process is difficult to achieve this level of Semifinalist at the state level. Massachusetts, through this process, recognizes the very best educators within the Commonwealth. We are incredibly proud to have Ms. Remillard on staff and appreciate all that she has done. Congratulations!
The NRHS project continues to move along at an incredible pace - we have included pictures in this newsletter so that you can see the growth of the overall project.
Thank you to each of our communities for your continued support of all we do within Nauset Public Schools. Each of our Towns has now successfully passed each of our budgets and Eastham has successfully passed its override. We are grateful to live in communities who place a high value on the education and growth of its children, and recognize its importance in building communities. Thank you to each of you who have continued to support the budgets and continued excellence of the Nauset schools. We are filled with gratitude to be surrounded by people who care.
Yours in partnership,
Brooke Clenchy
Superintendent
Congratulations! To NRMS Teacher Susannah Remillard!
Massachusetts 2024 Teacher of the Year Semifinalist
Susannah Remillard, Adventure Education Teacher at Nauset Regional Middle School, was recently announced as a Semi-Finalist for the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year award. This prestigious state award is bestowed upon the very best educators in the state. To be nominated for this award is, in and of itself, an honor. To be announced as a semi-finalist is a clear sign that Ms. Remillard is considered to be one the very best educators within the state. The process to arrive at Semi-Finalist is not an easy one, and it is most impressive to receive this level of recognition at the state level.
We are appreciative of the role Ms. Remillard has fulfilled in terms of the Adventure Education program at Nauset Regional Middle School. She has balanced honoring the program that was in place while at the same time seeking ways to continue to build upon its foundation.
Please join us in congratulating Ms. Remillard on her excellent work for the students of Nauset Reigonal Middle School!

Jazz in Our School
On April 24th, students enjoyed a performance entitled "Jazz in our School." This performance highlighted the history of jazz with musical selections that conveyed the importance of jazz as "America's music".
Family Paint Night
Family Paint Night where students, families, and staff came together to create and paint sea creatures and plants that will be part of our Brewster in Bloom parade float celebrating the theme "Under the Sea." Martha Mason spearheads this effort and uses her talents from her involvement in Mardi Gras parade float creation for our own Brewster schools' creations.
Author Patricia Zietlow Miller
On April 23, we had a visit from Patricia Zietlow Miller, author of "When you are Brave." Pat presented to all Stony Brook and Eddy School students and she presented an evening workshop to families. Many thanks to the Brewster PTO and the Brewster Ladies Library for their financial support that allowed this visit to happen. This event was part of Brewster's "Books and Big Ideas" campaign and students had the chance to connect affordable housing, shelter, and "being brave" at times when someone does not have a permanent place they can call 'Home'.
Eddy Elementary School Happenings
Principal Guditus and Senator Cyr
Principal Steve Guditus and Senator Cyr at our Eddy assembly focused on empathy, where Senator Cyr was our mystery guest and spoke about empathy for others.
Under the Sea
Eddy staff created a festival of creativity and deep learning in February 2024, with the theme of Under The Sea. Students engaged in interdisciplinary work across different classrooms, making connections with students and staff, all focused on the singular and common theme.
Author Nikki Shannon Smith
Author Nikki Shannon Smith spoke with students about her path to becoming a published author, reminding them to have respect for themselves and their words, persevering with hard things, and never giving up! This was tied to our school core values of being Eddy READY!
NRHS Building Project Update
Educational Liaisons Tom Faris and Kathleen Tringale
It is hard to overstate how considerable the changes have been to the four buildings that are phase one of the Nauset High School building project. In approximately six weeks, we will be moving new and existing furniture and equipment into these classrooms preparing them for students to return in September. It seems as though it has been years but, in reality we began the deconstruction and construction only last February (2023). This is when many classes moved into the modular classrooms from the existing buildings. Two buildings were completely razed and two other buildings were erected in their footprints. Some of those same teachers previously displaced will be moving into the new E building, the renovated G building, N Building and the new F building.
The new E building will house largely science classrooms as well as special education classrooms, and some general education classrooms. This building will feature several state-of-the-art labs for classes in physics, chemistry, biology and salt-water eco systems to name a few. These labs will allow students to work on performance-based activities in these lab/classroom settings.
G Building houses our gym. The gym floor has been totally renovated and reworked. Locker rooms and storage have also been completely redesigned with the students in mind. In addition, G Building will house the kitchen, and servery. The culinary arts program will also be located in this building to share some of the main kitchen’s infrastructure. The new cafeteria will feature improved aesthetics and seating access to the one-of-a-kind center courtyard; making the school continue to have a college campus feel. Our cafeteria also has a wall of reclaimed siding from some of the original buildings’ exteriors as a nod to the former campus.
N building was the most recent addition to the school in the 1990’s. It has completely been reconfigured to house the Fine Arts programs of Nauset High School. Purpose-built spaces such as jewelry, woodworking, clay, photography and architecture to list just some of the offerings will enjoy the features of these new spaces. There will be a drama classroom as well as a classroom for architecture classes.
Our administration, guidance, nurse and student services will be moving to the new F building. This building will be the main entrance of the campus going forward. Offices for the principal, assistant principals, school resource officer and guidance counselors will all be housed together in the new main office.
The Auditorium will not be ready for occupation in September due to the complexities in that space, but it will be worth the wait. This new community space will be one of the centerpieces of the school design. The new PAC (performing art center) will be a place for concerts, lectures, recitals and events for years to come.
