The Importance of Attendance & Being On Time
Dear Montclair Families,
As we move forward in the school year, daily attendance and punctuality are more important than ever! Right now, students are engaged in in-school tutoring, remediation, and small group instruction tailored to their individual needs. These learning opportunities are critical in preparing them for end-of-year assessments and ensuring they are ready for the next grade level.
When students are absent or checked out early, they miss valuable instructional time that cannot be replaced. Every minute in the classroom counts! Montclair is committed to reaching 60% proficiency, and we need your support to make sure every student is present, engaged, and learning every day.
Thank you for partnering with us to help our students succeed!

Encouraging Positive Behavior as the Weather Warms Up
Dear Montclair Families,
As the weather warms up and students spend more time outside, we’ve noticed an increase in physical interactions, including fights. To ensure we maximize instructional time and maintain a safe environment, we ask for your support in reminding students to keep their hands and feet to themselves. If they experience any conflicts, they should immediately report the issue to a teacher or staff member.
We also want to make you aware of our Code of Conduct regarding fighting:
-
Fighting is defined as two or more individuals engaged in a physical conflict, including hitting or kicking.
-
A student who is attacked may use reasonable force only to free themselves and must notify school authorities.
-
If a student exceeds reasonable force, they may still face disciplinary action, even if they did not start the fight.
-
Fighting is classified as a Level 3 behavioral violation, resulting in 2-10 days of out-of-school suspension.
For students who receive Level 1 or 2 behavioral consequences, we implement a restorative justice approach in our Stable Program. During their time in the Stable, students:
✅ Participate in a restorative justice circle to reflect on their behavior and learn positive responses for future situations.
✅ Complete an ABE (Alternative Behavior Educator) Module, an interactive web-based resource designed to teach and reinforce positive behaviors.
✅ Work on any assigned classroom tasks to stay on track academically.
Our goal is to help students develop conflict-resolution skills and maintain a respectful and safe school environment. Thank you for partnering with us to support student success!
