Back to School News 2024-2025
Austin Parkway Campus Newsletter - July 29, 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to welcome your child back to school for the upcoming school year!
To introduce ourselves and share important information about the upcoming school year, teachers will be contacting you by phone and email on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 4:00 PM. We look forward to speaking with you.
Class assignments have been carefully determined based on a variety of factors including staffing, student needs, and parent input. We understand that you may have preferences for your child's class placement. However, to ensure balanced and equitable class compositions, we will not be able to honor requests for changes to class assignments.
We invite you to attend our Meet the Teacher event on Monday, August 5, from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to meet your child's teacher and learn more about the upcoming school year.
Please note that school hours have changed for the 2024-2025 school year. Our new school hours are 8:05 AM to 3:25 PM.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work together to create a successful school year for all students.
Sincerely,
Audrey Macklin
Principal, Austin Parkway Elementary
Please Welcome Our New Assistant Principal Mrs. Cynthia Kirkpatrick!
It is my privilege to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal of Austin Parkway Elementary. This school year will be my 24th year in Fort Bend ISD. I have served as an assistant principal for the last six years. Prior to that, I was an elementary classroom teacher for eighteen years. I have had the privilege of teaching second, third, and fourth grades. I will always be a teacher at heart!
I am excited to serve alongside Mrs. Macklin to lead the many talented teachers and students. My goal is to continue to provide a safe, supportive, and challenging environment in which all students can thrive. I am looking forward to working with parents, students, and the APE community to make this a successful school year as we “Chart the Course”.

The PTA typically provides monetary support such as programs, the winter and spring parties, technology, staff development for teachers, field trips, etc., as well as voluntary time and hours by providing people to assist with multiple school activities.
Please contact our PTA President, Jaime Flores at president@austinparkwaypta.org for information regarding any questions or to volunteer for the PTA.

Welcome Back - News from the Nurse
I hope you all have had a restful and more importantly FUN summer break! I am so excited to see your smiling faces again. My goal is to have a safe, and healthy school year. A couple of things to remember when preparing for our first day back: Make sure to update the health history form in Skyward listing any conditions I need to be aware of. You can call me as well to discuss your child’s care. If you have medications or medical forms to drop off, please do so before the beginning of school, it gets a bit hectic the first day.
DO NOT send any medications in with students, they need to be dropped off by an adult. Although it’s not part of the school supply list it is always a good idea for each student (no matter the grade) have an extra pair of clothes in their backpacks. As always please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Arrival & Dismissal Traffic Patterns
To help alleviate traffic congestion during the morning drop-off and the afternoon pick-up, please follow the traffic pattern map above.
The side driveway that runs parallel with Austin Parkway is for school buses and day care vans for drop-off/pick-up each day. The side driveway is available to cars during student drop-off only.
The front driveway that runs parallel with Cross Lakes Blvd. is available for cars during drop off and pick up times. Students should only be dropped off and picked up in the designated areas in the car lines. It is never acceptable to drop-off or pick-up a student in the street or other undesignated areas.
The back car pick-up entrance is for HOV students. HOV pick-up tags will be issued to parents picking up 3+ students at the front office. Don’t forget to use the rear view mirror tag when picking up your child. This expedites the pick-up process.
Do Not Drop Students Off in the Faculty Parking Lot
This Area is Restricted for Faculty, Pre-K, and Special Education Buses
Dismissal Procedures
Safety is a priority at Austin Parkway and it is important that your child(ren) understand how they will go home each day. Please decide on a consistent way for your child to get home to avoid confusion during dismissal. Consistency is the key to ensuring our children get home safely.
PM Car Riders: Children will be brought to the Library and front hallway to sit in lines by their pick-up number. Older siblings need to find their younger siblings so that they can sit together. Pick up your rear view mirror tag at the front desk.
Day Care: Children will be brought to the gym to sit in their prospective daycare lines. Daycares will be picked up at the bus ramp at the doors closest to the gym.
Bus: Children will be brought to the cafeteria to line up in their prospective bus number lines.
Pre-K: Children will be brought to the ABC hallway to dismiss. This is located in the back of the building. Pick up your Pre-K tag from your child's teacher.
HOV: Children will be brought to the ABC hallway to dismiss for HOV. This is located at the back of the building and pertains to vehicles with 3 or more student passengers. Pick up your HOV tag at the front desk.
Red Walkers/Bikers: Students will be walked out of the appropriate doors. Teachers will walk the children down the sidewalk to the stop sign while others stay at the bike racks.
Blue Walkers/Bikers: Students will be walked out of the appropriate doors. Teachers will walk the children across the street at the crosswalk while others stay at the bike racks.
Purple Walkers/Bikers: Teachers will walk the children across the hardtop to the property line at the back of the school. Teachers will remain with the students until all of them have been picked up by a parent.

Rainy Days
For health and safety reasons, as well as, to keep our dismissal procedures consistent, please do not congregate at the exterior doors.
Tardies
All students are counted tardy if not in class and seated by the 8:05 a.m. bell. To be prepared for a productive day we encourage students to arrive by 7:45 a.m.
When a student is late, he/she will follow the procedures listed below:
- Students are tardy if they are not in their classroom and seated at 8:05 a.m.
- Parents must come into the front office and sign their child in if they are tardy. Students are not allowed to be dropped off unescorted by a parent after the 8:05 a.m. bell. This is for your child’s safety.
- If a student does not have a tardy slip with them when they enter class they will be sent back to the office.
- The student delivers the tardy slip to the classroom teacher.
- All tardy slips will be kept by the teacher.
- Five or more tardies will result in an “N” under “Follows School Rules” on the report card.
Standard Water Bottles Only
Please Do Not Allow Students to Bring a Stanley Cup
To help maintain a safe and clean learning environment, we kindly request that students bring a standard-sized water bottle to school. While we appreciate the durability of Stanley cups, a standard water bottle will help prevent spills and accidents in the classroom and hallways.
