A Note From The Superintendent
Gladiator Families & Staff:
I am writing to address a deeply concerning incident that recently took place in our community. As many of you are aware, a group of masked individuals demonstrated outside the Howell American Legion over the weekend during a performance of The Diary of Anne Frank, displaying Nazi flags. After leaving Howell, this group moved to downtown Fowlerville, about a mile from our district- these hateful symbols of intolerance have no place in our community.
Fowlerville Community Schools condemns this act of hate. Such actions go against the respect and togetherness we strive to uphold as a district and community. The district is dedicated to creating a community environment with our partners such as the Fowlerville Community Theater, American Legion and others, where every student, staff and community member feels safe and valued.
Please know that our staff takes every report of bullying, hate speech, and harassment seriously. Students are encouraged to speak with any trusted adult in our buildings, reach out to a counselor or social worker, or make a confidential report via OK2SAY.
As always, we value the partnership of our families, staff, and community members in this important work. Families are encouraged to speak with their children. Our counselors and social workers can also speak with students who may have expressed fear about this situation. Thank you for standing with us in rejecting hate and building a brighter future for all.
Sincerely,
Matthew Stuard
Superintendent
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Fowlerville Elementary School
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Fowlerville Elementary School ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 1 and helped make it a wonderful celebration. It was incredible to see so many community members, parents, staff and students come together to mark this special milestone. For those who were unable to attend, we're excited to share that the building will be open for tours again on December 7 during Christmas in the 'Ville. Keep an eye out for more details soon as we look forward to welcoming even more of you to explore our fantastic new space! #GoGlads
Thank you Voters!
On behalf of Fowlerville Community Schools, thank you for supporting the Special Education Millage Renewal and Restoration on Tuesday, November 5. This approval reaffirms our community's dedication to providing a high-quality education for every student, every day.
The renewed millage will fund vital services for students with special needs, such as paraeducators, assistive technology and behavioral support, ensuring they have full access to their education. Additionally, the positive impact of the millage extends throughout our district. By addressing the shortfall left by state and federal funding, the millage helps preserve our general operating budget, enabling us to maintain essential services for all students.
We are grateful to be part of a community that consistently prioritizes educational opportunities for every student. Thank you again for your steadfast support of Fowlerville Community Schools!
Honoring our Veterans
Fowlerville Community Schools recently honored our veterans in many ways. At H.T. Smith Elementary School, students and staff held a moment of silence dismissal with several veterans in attendance and students were able to watch a slideshow of local veterans talking about their military experience. At Natalie Kreeger Elementary School, the spirit of patriotism was in full force as staff and students submitted photos of their veteran family members who were proudly displayed on a special "Wall of Honor" for all to see. The Kreeger staff also rallied together to raise money for the GI Go Fund, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to veterans, service members and their families.
Students at the Junior High School partnered with Vet Life. This is a project where students write letters and draw pictures to share with veterans. The Fowlerville High School Leadership students organized a school-wide card making activity with the cards being distributed to local veterans.
It's inspiring to see our Fowlerville students and staff go above and beyond to honor the men and women who have served our country. These meaningful activities not only teach our students about the importance of Veterans Day, but also to instill in them a deep sense of respect, gratitude and appreciation for our nation's heroes.
Board of Education Election Results
The Fowlerville Community Schools Board of Education election results from November 5 are in. Congratulations to Amy Sova, President; Bob Hinton, Vice President; and Sue Charron, Secretary, on their reelection to the Board of Education. Their continued service will provide valuable support for Fowlerville's students, staff and community. A warm welcome to Lindsey A. Redinger, who will be joining the Board of Education as a new member beginning in January 2025. We also would like to thank Justin Braska, Trustee, for his dedicated service to the Board since his appointment in May 2023. Mr. Braska will serve through December 2024. His commitment to the district has made a positive impact on our students, staff and community.
FCS Receives a 'Clean and Unmodified' Audit
Fowlerville Community Schools is pleased to announce the district has received a 'Clean and Unmodified' audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. The audit, conducted by Maner Costerisan, a respected independent auditing firm, was presented to the Board of Education on October 15, 2024. The Board unanimously approved the audit report which reflects the district's commitment to responsible financial management.
The audit provides a comprehensive evaluation of the district's compliance with established procedures and policies, confirming the presence of effective internal controls that lead to reliable financial statements. The financial health of Fowlerville Community Schools is robust, as evidenced by the general fund balance, which at 11% of general fund expenditures, surpasses the Board of Education's target of 10%. This positive outcome reflects the district's commitment to fiscal responsibility and sound financial management.
Attendance Matters
When students miss school, they miss an opportunity to learn. Attending school on a regular basis is essential to gaining the academic skills to thrive. Students who miss more than 18 days of school are less proficient in reading, writing and math compared to their peers with good attendance.
If your student is sick and cannot attend school, please make sure to call the school office. Students should be fever free for 24 hours without medication before returning. If we all work together, we can keep students and staff healthy during cold and flu season.
