KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
Kia ora whānau, welcome to the end of week 8 - only two weeks to go till the end of the term and the year! There are a lot of 'things' happening over these last 2 weeks, so please take note of the dates in the calendar below and the posters we have added from each syndicate.
This week our leadership team celebrated the achievements we have made as a school in reading, writing and maths - our core foundational skills. The results were amazing, and the staff and our learners should be extremely proud of the results! We have certainly put in a lot of learning this year and to get the positive results makes us so proud. See the 'speedo' chart below for the overall averages for 2023.
Next week the 'summative reports' come home for each of our learners. These reports are the summation of the year - they will look very similar to the progress reports we have updated all year. On each foundational skill area there will be a summation, there is a summation for each learner against our IROCK values and a final summation 'back page' around the other curriculum areas. Please have a read of these reports. They give a fantastic overview of your child(ren)'s academic achievements for the year.
Next week we are having our IROCK evening - a showcase of our cultural and arts learners. A big thanks to everyone who is coming along for this evening. We will be having our final performances of our Kapahaka, Choir, Ukelele group, Talent Quest finalists and speech finalists. This is an open evening to any whānau who want to attend. The Paetoki classrooms will be open from 5.30pm to come and play the 'cardboard games' before the IROCK evening.
A reminder about school photos - the link for these should have been sent to your email (check your junk if not). It will have come from 'Photolife'. Have your orders done by midnight on the 6th Dec to get free shipping. If you have no code, contact the office and Annie or Suzy will help you out.
Lastly, I just want to thank everyone for the kind words this week after the news I dropped on Tuesday. Leaving Vogeltown School to go Woodleigh School has not been an easy decision, my heart and soul has been with Vogeltown for the last 9 years. I am looking forward to new challenges at Woodleigh, new staff, kids, whānau and the chance to replicate some of the cool stuff we have at Vogeltown there. I will do a final farewell in the last newsletter of the term, but just to let you all know that your kind words and messages have been truly humbling.
UPCOMING NEXT WEEK:
* Board of Trustees meeting - Tuesday 5th Dec, 6pm - 8pm, senior staffroom
* Taranaki (Junior) team folk dancing. Wed 6th Dec, 2pm in the hall
* Whanau Tabloids - Friday 8th Dec, 9.30am - 11.30am on the senior back field.
* IROCK evening (cultural night showcase) Thursday 7th Dec, 6pm - 7pm in the hall
Have a great weekend whānau!

SPORTS NEWS - UPDATES
2024 Term 1 Sports Registrations
Registrations for Term 1 sports are now open on our Kindo Shop. Please sign in to your Kindo account for full details and dates. Registrations will remain open over the school holidays and will close on Friday 26 January. Options to choose from are:
Summer Soccer: Tuesdays from 5.30pm at Merrilands Domain
Cricket: Fridays from 5.30pm at various sports grounds
Touch Rugby: Monday afternoons at Corbett Park, Oakura
Please note: Next year we are offering touch rugby on a Monday night out at Corbett Park in Oakura rather than Hickford Park in Bell Block. Our numbers for Term 1 touch have been dwindling every year to the point where we are struggling to get enough players to enter a team in each grade. If we still do not get the numbers to enter teams a full refund will be given.
Congratulations to our U12 Touch Rugby team the Vogeltown Hurricanes who won their semi-final against Woodleigh School last week in a tense extra time drop off!! ...and yes - we enjoyed telling Mr Ogle about this result!!
Best of luck for their final on Monday night against St Pius X Steppers which is being played at Devon Intermediate at 4.50pm.

ENROLMENTS AT VS FOR 2024
OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS 2024:
Enrolment at Vogeltown School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office or from our website.
Next year there will be two enrolment periods.
The first enrolment period will run from 30 January 2024 to 12 April 2024.
The second enrolment period will run from 29 April 2024 to 5 July 2024.
The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by Wednesday 14th February 2024. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments received from students who live within the school's home zone.
For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of out of zone places is Friday 23rd February 2024. Application for enrolment for an out of zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the school office and from our website). Applications can be sent via email to office@vogeltown.school.nz or delivered directly to the school office.
Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2024 should apply by Friday 6th October 2023 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2024 school year.
For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on Monday 26th February 2024. Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Tuesday 27th February 2024.
