WE ARE STALLIONS
A Message from Mr. Dawson
In just a few weeks we will be wrapping up the 2016-2017 school year. Many staff, students, and parents are hard at work planning fun and exciting activities over the next few weeks for your student to enjoy.
While there are many accomplishments for us to celebrate over the next few weeks, it is also important that we treat these final weeks with the same importance and value as the first. Therefore, we continue to set high academic and behavioral expectations for students.
A recent discussion that we have been having with students has been the presence and use of spinners in classrooms and in hallways. We have been making routine announcements in the morning to communicate building-wide expectations and provide students with multiple reminders of these expectations.
Unfortunately, we are noticing that the use of spinners in class is becoming more of a distraction than a tool to help students focus. Please understand that Stratford and CCSD 93 staff recognize the importance of meeting the various needs of students to help each student reach their maximum potential and that fidgets can help to provide the subtle and quiet sensory activity that some students require in order to maintain their focus on the learning task. In response, we equipped each classroom at the start of the 2016-2017 school year with "Stratford-approved" fidgets that have been effective for students and that allowed teachers to have clear expectations for how these items can be used in class.
Therefore, I am asking that you help us by having your student keep their spinner at home. I encourage students that feel they are struggling to maintain focus or attention in class to have a discussion with their teacher so that both parties are aware of the needs of that student and can problem solve together the various of ways that we meet these needs at Stratford, whether through the use of a fidget or other method.
Thank you for your continued support at home! Here's to a great finish to the 2016-2017 school year!
Sincerely,
Patrick

COMMUNITY
Birth to 5 Coalition
Did you know that our school district has formed a partnership with community agencies in the Carol Stream, Bloomingdale and Hanover Park areas to support families with children from birth to age 5? The Birth to 5 Community Coalition is led by Michelle Scharinger, CCSD93's Birth to 3 Coordinator, with Rosary Horne, the school principal at our Early Childhood Center. The main goal of the coalition is to help families provide positive experiences and get supports needed for their children in an effort to help all children of CCSD93 be ready for Kindergarten. Please keep on the lookout for upcoming, free events provided by the coalition. Events are open to all families within the CCSD93 boundaries with children 5 years old and under. All events combine fun activities for children with access to coalition partners for parents.
We hope to see you at our next two events: Carol Stream Park District’s Just Play on May 20th & our Ice Cream Picnic & Bubbles Galore at Armstrong Park on June 3rd!
