Chesapeake Science Point Elementary and Chesapeake Science Point Middle-High Schools have received Charter Renewals for an unprecedented 7 years.
Annapolis, MD (November 20, 2024)—The Anne Arundel County Public Schools Board of Education has approved Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) schools, Chesapeake Science Point Elementary Public Charter School (CSP ES) and Chesapeake Science Point Middle High School (CSP MHS) to renew their charters through SY2031. Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Superintendent, Dr. Bedell recommended that the board approve a seven-year charter renewal, which was unanimously voted by the Board.
CSP Middle High School has been a beacon of educational excellence in AACPS for 20 years and is consistently recognized as one of the Best Schools by USNews and World Report. CSPMHS consistently earns 5 STAR ratings from The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and ranks as the No. 1 charter school in Anne Arundel County Schools.
Chesapeake Science Point Middle High School principal, Mr. Derrell T. Owens, presented to the eight members of Anne Arundel County School Board. Mr. Patrick Crain, Assistant Superintendent, Educational Options and School Climate at Anne Arundel County Public Schools, stated, “The renewal and the overall support from the board shows the level of collaboration between CLF and AACPS. Without this support and the hard work of staff, none of this would be possible.”
CLF Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yilmaz Ak, of the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) remarked, "We are honored to receive a seven-year renewal, affirming the excellence of our educators, students, and families. This renewal reflects our ongoing success and provides the foundation to expand our middle school and continue shaping brighter futures."
CLF has three successful Best Schools rated (U.S. News) K-12 schools in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties. Our CLF schools are STEM-focused, providing students with numerous opportunities to be exposed to STEM. All CLF high schools offer dual enrollment/early college options, allowing students to earn an Associate’s Degree while simultaneously earning their high school diploma.
Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation was established in 2003. In 2005 the first of seven STEM focused schools was established. Chesapeake Science Point MH Charter School in Anne Arundel County, and the Chesapeake Math & IT Academy Public Charter Schools, Prince George's County, remain among Best Schools (US News). The newest and 7th school, Chesapeake Science Point Elementary Public Charter School, is slated to open in 2023.
