A Message from the Benson Tech Bowling Coach Jacob Patterson
Benson Girls Bowling are returning to State for the second year in a row following today's District Tournament! Benson Girls finished in 4th place, Boys finishing in 5th in Districts for 2024. Both teams rolled really great games throughout the tournament at Mt Hood Lanes in Gresham, the boys having multiple games over 200 and averaging 150+, the girls rolling very impressive 140s! After 20 qualifying games the top six teams advanced into the semi-finals, Benson Tech girls qualifying 5th, boys at 6th.
During the 10th semi-finals games Benson Tech students continued remarkable bowling, the boys were in 3rd place after the first 6 of 10 semi finals. But the extremely challenging and exhausting 8- hour long tournament was just too much for our boys to hang on, dropping and finishing 5th overall missing State by about 100 pins. A huge congratulations to senior Myles Hunt for making the Oregon State All Star team with his epic performance today, coming over from McDaniel and rolling with Benson Tech today! Also congratulations to Jeslyn for her epic performance also making the Oregon State All Star Team, coming over from Barlow and bowling with us today. We cannot thank all of our students, coaches, parents, volunteers for all their support. We had a nice Benson Tech cheering section! We hope to see you come support the Girls at State Feb 24th & 25th in Salem.
More info to come.

We also offer Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) passes which cover admission for the full season. These will only be accepted at PIL League contests and matches and may not be used at non-PPS sites. PIL passes cost:

No outside food or drinks.
This includes water, although you may bring an empty water bottle and fill it. There will be concessions for purchase during varsity contests.

We expect good sportsmanship.
The PIL seeks to provide the best experience possible for everyone that attends our athletic events. In the course of competition tension may rise, but we expect our spectators to conduct themselves with the highest level of sportsmanship towards visiting schools, athletes, fans, and officials. Should any concerns arise, please seek out event staff, administration or security personnel to help resolve any concerns.

A Message from the Benson Tech Swim Team
Hey everyone! Like all teams our new team has found the need to do some fundraising for equipment and such. And we found out that everyone wants to have some gear! So we have a lovely Bonfire store to help out. You get a cool T or hoodie, and the team gets a couple of bucks....Win-Win! If you have no use for anything, no worries, just sharing the link out is support enough.
Thanks for the support,
Steve

An Important Message from TriMet
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This is about MAX closures from Jan. 14-Feb.25 along I-84 and the Gateway Transit Center. This is likely to impact students that attend Benson Tech.
TriMet is preparing to put the finishing touches on our A Better Red construction at the Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center, capping off a major part of a project that broke ground in September 2021. To reach this milestone, the Gateway Transit Center will be closed to trains from Jan. 14 through Feb. 25. During that time, crews will connect the new track and systems that were previously constructed just north of the transit center, and they’ll get the new Gateway North station ready for service beginning on Monday, Feb. 26. We encourage those who ride MAX Blue, Green and Red lines to use alternative modes of transportation during the disruption. MAX will not serve the Gateway Transit Center while construction is taking place, with MAX Blue and Green lines disrupted and MAX Red Line suspended. More.

A Message from Benson's Radio Instructor Jacob Patterson
The Portland Public School radio station AM 1450 KBPS is looking for PPS high school students to do live sportscasting on-air! No broadcast experience is required. Any PPS high school student is eligible. Students and families wanting more info should go to kbps.am and click on "Sports." Students must provide their own transportation to the game (broadcast locations vary by game, most broadcast games take place at PIL schools.) Students must arrive at the broadcast location 45 minutes before the start of the game. Students need to be present for the entire game (football games last about 2-3 hours, basketball games last about 2 hours - length of games can vary.) Students are recommended to bring their own water and snacks. Students should attend a game to train and observe with the KBPS Sportscasting, learn the process, and take notes before broadcasting on-air. Students must maintain professionalism and be non-biased while broadcasting on AM 1450 and representing KBPS as our Sportscasting crew. Please email KBPS Instructor Jacob Patterson at jacpatterson@pps.net to get the current KBPS Sportscasting schedule and to sign up! Click here for the KBPS Sportscasting Recruiting Flyer "

A Message from the Benson Tech Leadership Class
Dear Benson Tech Families,
The Benson Tech Leadership Classes are raising funds for our Portland community in collaboration with Communicare. Our mission intends support for addiction, mental health, and housing as we view these crises as interlinked. You can support our efforts by picking up a BLUE Bottle Drop bag in the front office. Simply fill the pre-tagged bag with your recycled cans or bottles and drop them at any Bottle Drop accepting location. By donating these items, Communicare matches our donation 10 fold, essentially making each recycled bottle or can worth $1 each to support local nonprofits!
We would greatly appreciate your support in our efforts to make a positive change within our community.
Sincerely,
The Benson Tech Leadership classes

An Important Message from the Benson Tech PE Department
Benson Tech 9th Grade Families,
Welcome to Benson Polytechnic High School! We look forward to working with you and your student during this upcoming school year. We as the Fit 2 Live & Learn Team are excited to bring you one of the most unique and comprehensive Physical Education and Health experiences in the state. In order to provide this experience, we ask that you provide Freshman Safety Equipment and Field Trip donations if possible. Please help us in supporting our PE Department with a $20 donation that we will utilize for PE Uniforms and Equipment for our freshman PE students. Just click on the link and it will take you directly to SchoolPay where you can make your donation to the Benson Tech PE department. https://pps.schoolpay.com/pay/for/Benson--PE--9th-Grade-Uniforms/SdXKDdQ
Thank you in advance for your support!
