What is Esports?
Esports is organized competition between teams or individuals playing video games and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world! Esports in K-12 education is primarily played at the High School level with teams and clubs popping up all over the world.
Why Esports?
As described on the National Federation of State High School Associations site, “esports requires teamwork, communication, critical and strategic thinking, creativity, sportsmanship, and leadership.” Esports have developed from simple competitive activities to potentially opening up opportunities for a diversity of students to stay engaged in school and to explore careers in computer science or other related STEM fields. Nationwide, colleges are offering more than $18 million in scholarships to esports participants.
How do Esports fit into schools?
