5/4 - Chalk the Walk at Cumberland School, come by and write a message to staff members in celebration of Staff Appreciation Week from May 5-8.

5/5 - Cumberland Capannari's Coolest School Contest Day from 5:30pm - 7pm

5/7 - SEPAC Family Movie Night at 6pm at the Westerhold Early Learning Center. (more info below)

5/9 - No school for students, Teacher Institute Day

5/14 - Cumberland School Countdown Begins until end of school year. Cumberland PTO Meeting at 7pm. The meeting will be held at Cumberland School.

5/16 - Cumberland PTO Walk A Thon from 1:30pm - 2:30pm. Click here for more information.

5/21 - Cumberland Culture Night from 6pm - 8pm.

5/22 - Registration Event for all D62 Families at Algonquin Middle School from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.

5/26 - No school for Memorial Day.

5/30 - Cumberland Field Day for students during the school day.

6/2 - Cumberland Kindergarten Orientation for 25-26 School Year from 6pm - 7pm at Cumberland School

6/3 - Cumberland Field Day (Rain Date)

6/5 - End of Trimester 3 and last day of school. Report cards will be available through Infinite Campus at 3:30pm.

Per the District 62 Student Handbook, the following are non-exhaustive guidelines for student appearance:

• Students shall not be permitted to wear or display items of clothing, jewelry, or other symbols associated with or related to gangs or gang activities in school buildings.
• Students are expected to wear opaque clothing that covers them from shoulder to mid-thigh.
• Inappropriate or offensive sayings or pictures on clothing is not allowed.
• Hats, caps, and head coverings (with the exception of those worn for religious, cultural and/or medical reasons) are not allowed to be worn inside the school building.

Dear Families,

We have three exciting events coming up next week. D62’s Special Education Advisory Council (SEPAC) is hosting a movie night on May 7th and a parent education event on May 8. District 62 Special Olympic athletes will compete on May 10th. See details below.

• Wednesday, May 7th at 6pm: Movie Night at the ELC - Disney’s Out of My Mind - Check out our flyer for more information and to RSVP.

• Thursday, May 8th at 6:30pm: Stronger Together: Inclusion, Partnership and Progress with Dr. Jenna Rufo. Participate in-person at the Forest Administration Center Board Room, or virtually via this Zoom link. See this flyer for more information and to RSVP to the event.

• Saturday, May 10th starting at 8am: Special Olympics will be held at Prospect High School, 801 W. Kensington Road, Mount Prospect. Come support our amazing athletes!

• The Cumberland Countdown will begin on May 14 until the end of the school year.
• Students are welcome to participate in the themes for each day outlined below.

Positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) is an approach schools use to promote school safety and good behavior. This month students are learning about: lending a hand. During social emotional learning time, they will work through class discussions, listen to read alouds from staff, and engage in other activities with their class centered around the monthly focus.

One way you can support this monthly focus at home is to have conversations with your child(ren) about our monthly themes.

The Cumberland PTO supports students and teachers throughout each year through hosting community events, fundraising, and providing many opportunities for community members to volunteer. Please join us for the monthly PTO Meeting on Wednesday, April 9th at 7pm. The meeting will be held virtually. More information will be sent out the week of the meeting as well as the link for the virtual meeting.
