On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, AC Flora Teacher Cadets were recognized at the Richland One Teacher Cadet Signing Day at the Heyward Career Center. Sixty-six students from Richland One high schools were honored.

At total of 13 seniors signed letters of agreement with Richland One, pledging to return to the district to teach after graduation from college. Flora seniors Kimarie Barnes and J'Marie Hines signed letters of agreement.

J'Marie plans to attend North Carolina A & T in the fall. Kimarie plans to attend the University of South Carolina.

J'Marie Hines was also named AC Flora Teacher Cadet of the Year. Dr. Vaughan noted "it is always difficult to select just one Cadet to be Teacher of the Year. Each one of them has contributed to creating a unique learning community, in which we have discussed many different topics related to learning, their lives, and the role of schools in fostering civically engaged members of their community."

Teacher Cadet is a dual enrollment course with the University of South Carolina. The primary purpose of the Teacher Cadet Program is to encourage academically talented, high-achieving, high school students with exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills to consider teaching as a career. An important secondary goal of the Program is to develop future community leaders who will become civic advocates for public education.

Rising juniors and seniors who are interested in a career in education or how schools work from a teacher's perspective should see their Counselor for information about how to enroll in the course for the 2024-2025 school year.

If you are registered to take the SAT at A.C. Flora on May 4th, please bring your fully charged district-issued laptop with you. This will help ensure that you can access our district's network on the day of your test. Also, please check that Bluebook is already installed and updated on your laptop.

Midlands Tech will host a Dual Enrollment Session for all students who’ve registered for the 24-25 School year tomorrow, May 3, at 9:15 a.m. in the library. Please bring your laptops to complete the registration process. Juniors and Seniors who did not register, however, you’re interested in Dual Enrollment for the 24-25 school year, please see your counselor ASAP to have your name added to the list of attendees. A hall pass will be provided for student names listed.

Students will need a pass to attend!

The Class of 2024 Senior Night will be held on Friday, May 17th at 6:30 pm in the AC Flora Competition Gym. ALL seniors and their parents are invited to this annual event that honors the senior class and their accomplishments.

We are excited to celebrate your senior as we get closer to graduation! At Senior Night, we will present many awards, honor student achievements, have multiple performances and speeches, hand out cords, stoles, and other graduation regalia, and seniors will receive gifts from AC Flora. This will be a great time to spend one last evening together as a class before graduation, and we look forward to seeing ALL of our seniors there!

Senior attire for this evening should be dressy casual (dress, suit, or nice shirt and pants). Ties are not required, but certainly not discouraged. This event will be nice, but not overly formal.

To be featured in Jostens annual "best of the best" publication is a significant achievement. A team of experts selected 480 yearbooks from over 1,000 high schools in the United States, Canada, and Internationally. The Look Book 2024 in which the cover of our 2023 yearbook is featured was sent to 11,000 high schools internationally.

This past fall members of the National Art Honor Society painted one of 35 trout sculptures for the Columbia Streams Art project. The AC Flora design is inspired by a children's book titled "The Rainbow Fish". The finished sculptures will be on display at the Columbia Museum of Art beginning May 3. Please see photos below.

We are so proud of all the AC Flora Orchestra students who participated in the SCMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival on Friday, April 26th. All students received Superior ratings for each music piece performed for the SC Music Educators Association judges. Congratulations to these students!
