NMS Recognizes Work Habits and Conduct
Before break, NMS staff and students gathered in the gym to recognize students who have a 3.0 or higher average in Work Habits and Conduct. There were 291 students who met the 3.0 or higher average criteria for Work Habits and 317 students who met the same criteria for Conduct. We pulled names to give out customized NMS Squire Gatorade water bottles to 2 lucky students in each category. Congratulations to Jackson Toof, Myah Nielsen, Kiko Paskowski and Aiden Martin!
Winter State Testing is Happening in January
What can you do to help your child have a good testing experience?
- Be aware of the test schedule. Be sure to find out which days and times students are testing.
- Make sure your child gets plenty of rest and a good night’s sleep. Continue going to bed early throughout testing.
- Make sure your child eats a good breakfast at home or at school. It helps with concentration and focus.
- Be on time for school, and be at school every day during testing.
- Avoid scheduling appointments that can be done at a later date.
- Dress your child in layered clothing. This way, he/she may add clothing to get warmer or remove some clothing to be cooler.
- Make sure your child has a book to read when the test session is complete.
- Have a positive attitude!

NMS Supports Healthy Choices
There are risks as an adult, but even greater risks for children! The American Academy of Pediatrics suggest that children under the age of 12 should NOT eat or drink any caffeine-containing foods or drinks. For children older than 12, caffeine intake should be between 85-100 mg per day maximum. At NMS we encourage students to not consume energy drinks and to make healthy choices.
30 Minutes of Outside Wellness Everyday
At NMS we believe spending time outdoors has a range of benefits for both mental and physical health, including reduced stress, improved mood, increased vitamin D levels, enhanced cognitive function, all thanks to the positive effects of exposure to nature and sunlight. NMS students will go outside as long as the weather is not below 10 degrees considering wind chill or raining steadily. With that being said, it is crucial that students come prepared for all weather conditions. If having a coat and/or boots is a factor, please reach out to us. We can help!
