Memorial Visits School Board
Memorial’s music teacher, Rachel Zeleny, got a grant from the Music For Life Foundation in Hawaii to buy a pile of ukuleles for an after-school club. This week, 3rd and 4th grade students in the ukulele club attended the School Board meeting to show their musical progress, highlighted by rousing renditions of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Way to go, Bulldogs!
Mark Your Calendar for Spring Conferences
This spring, conferences will be spread out over three days. Elementary conferences will be held Wednesday evening, March 13 and Friday morning, March 15. Middle and high school conferences will run Thursday evening, March 14 and Friday morning, March 15.
All students have school Wednesday and Thursday and no students have school on Friday. Watch for communication from your school for specific conference times.
State Champions!

Safety Summit to Offer Session on Bullying
Everyone has heard about bullying, but what does it mean exactly and what can you do about it? Join us on Wednesday, March 6 for the 2024 Safety Summit. Find out more about this and other sessions included in the evening.
“Cookies & Stories” at Willamette
This week, Willamette PTA sponsored its second “Cookies & Stories" night with families visiting the school for a round robin of stories and ending with cookies and a raffle for family board games. Thank you, PTA!
Grizzly Sports
Congratulations to Mac High’s Girls and Boys’ swim teams, which both won the district Pacific Championships last weekend!
Up next is this coming weekend’s state championships, which includes individual qualifiers Michael Khoury (50 free), Noah Jones (50 free and 100 butterfly); Camden Parsons (200 IM); Keller Shea and Jace Zemlicka (100 free); and Ko Depweg (100 breast). All three boys' relays and two girls' teams (200 free and 400 free) also qualified for state.
In Girls wrestling, Kiara Rios and Sophia Duncke will head to state, and Boys wrestling will compete in the district championships this coming weekend.
Girls basketball is in first place in the league, and both Girls and Boys teams still have league play in the next couple of weeks.

Duniway Launches Book Project
Duniway students with younger siblings have a new resource to connect with their family members and help build literacy at home.
The “Little Sibling Locker Library” opened last week with brand-new books purchased with a grant from OSEA, an MSD employee union. The books are intended to be taken home and kept by families.
If you would like to contribute funds to keep the locker library going or have new books to donate, contact Duniway @ 503.565.4400. Thank you, OSEA!
The Play’s the Thing
More good news from Mac High’s drama department. Last weekend, junior Serenity Franke won the English Speaking Union's Shakespeare Competition in Portland!
Pictured (right) with fellow competitor senior Reni Ballas, Serenity will represent Oregon in the finals with a chance to move onto the national event in London this summer. Congrats!
No School Day Activities at Evergreen
Evergreen Museums is offering a Bessie Coleman Barnstormer Camp tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp includes a day at the museum's Flight Training Center, a live theatrical performance and other activities. The event honors Bessie Coleman, the first Black woman and first Native American descendent to earn a pilot’s license. Coleman’s inspiring life story is related through a performance by her great-niece Gigi Coleman. Details and tickets here.
Also at the museum on Friday, Feb. 16, is a one-hour STEAM session called “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” targeted to 5- to 12-year-olds. Students will build models of aircraft while learning about energy, wheels and axles, air resistance and more. Click for registration and other info.
Lunar New Year Celebration
Join the fun on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. with this free event at the McMinnville Community Center.
Includes activities for kids like paper lantern decorating and face painting and Dragon & Lion Dance performances for the whole family. Find out more.
