Strive for 5!
Per Texas State Law, in order to receive credit for a course or grade level, a student must be in attendance 90% of the time. Absences whether excused or unexcused count towards the total.
But even more important than the law is that when your child misses school, they miss the amazing instruction that is happening and there's no way to ever truly make that up. Last year, our students missed a total of 3,320 days of instruction which equals 24,900 hours of awesome teaching that went unexperienced.
We want all of our students to be able to take advantage of as much great teaching as possible, so that's why this year we are encouraging all parents to "Strive for 5!" Strive for 5 or less missed days for your child this school year. Please do not misunderstand- if your child is sick, please, please, please keep them home. However, try to plan vacations around our school holidays so that your child can avoid missing as much instruction as possible.
Many parents don't realize that the vast majority of our funding from the state is directly tied to our daily attendance. Each student that is present each day equates to about $37 in funding. If a student is absent, that amount is lost. $37 may not seem like much, but it adds up quickly! When looking at last year's numbers, LVMS lost $122,840 in funding due to attendance. That funding could allow us to hire more teachers equating to smaller class sizes to benefit our students.
Again, if your child is sick, please keep them home. The last thing we want is for your child to be miserable here at school and to possibly cause another child to be sick. What we are trying to limit is avoidable absences.
Attendance Reminders
- The tardy bell rings at 8:40. Instruction begins immediately at this time.
- Official attendance is taken each day at 9:45. If your child is not physically present at that time, they are counted absent.
- All attendance notes should be given to your child's teacher or emailed to Terri Harkins at tharkins@lagovistaisd.net. Notes should be returned within 3 school days of the absence or appointment.
- Typically, the later in the school day you can schedule needed appointments, the better. You definitely want to avoid the 9:45 time frame if possible.
Football finishes with amazing effort!
The Final Showdown
The Lago Vista Vikings stepped onto the field one last time Thursday against Wimberley, knowing this game would define their season. With a 3-4 record on the line, every inch mattered. The offense, led by the relentless Lester Gonzales and the powerhouse duo of Austin Babin and Austin Traver, pushed forward with everything they had. On defense, Joe Spence and Liangel Gonzales were absolute forces, creating chaos with bone-crushing hits, forcing fumbles, and snatching interceptions left and right. But despite their ferocious efforts, the Vikings fell short, losing 6-22. It was a hard-fought battle, but in the end, the scoreboard was not in the Vikings’ favor.
7th Grade A Team: Heart and Grit
The 7th-grade Vikings fought tooth and nail against the Wimberley Texans, holding their ground in a battle with everyone on the edge of their seats. In the first quarter, the Vikings’ defense stood tall, limiting the Texans to just 8 points, refusing to let them run wild. Offensively, despite facing constant pressure, Tate Philips and Kooper Kurdna kept the drive alive, grinding out yards and never backing down. The defense, led by Kolby Rodriguez, Aiden Street, and Tate Philips, fought with heart, keeping the pressure on the Texans. But in the end, despite their valiant effort, the Vikings couldn’t seal the deal, falling just short of a victory. It was a fight to the finish, and though they came up empty-handed, their courage and resolve were undeniable.
8th Grade A-Team: Redemption and Glory
One year. 365 days.
A year ago, the Lago Vista Vikings were left heartbroken, losing by just 6 points to the Wimberley Texans, a loss that denied them a District Championship. But every single day since, the goal was crystal clear: come back stronger, fight harder, and take back what was rightfully theirs. The Vikings set their minds to one mission – to be undefeated, to claim the District Championship, and to show the world that nothing could stand in their way.
Then came Thursday night. A clash of titans. The Vikings entered the field with one thing on their minds: victory. It was clear From the first whistle that the battle had begun. Offensively, the Vikings were unstoppable. Quarterback Easton Rice threw three surgical touchdowns, with Landon Jordan and Cole Schroeder himself making jaw-dropping catches. And when it wasn’t in the air, it was on the ground, as Brody Norris and Easton Rice carved through the Wimberley defense like a hot knife through butter. The ground game was a display of sheer power and finesse, breaking tackles, shredding the defense, and demoralizing the Texans at every turn.
On the other side of the ball, the defense was nothing short of relentless. Gage Browning was a wrecking ball, delivering thunderous hits and forcing crucial fumbles in the most critical moments. With the game hanging in the balance, Cole Schroeder recovered a fumble on a goal-line stand, keeping the Vikings’ dream alive. When the Vikings scored a late touchdown, Austin Babin delivered a monstrous hit on the kick-off, with Austin Traver recovering the ball and sealing the deal for the Vikings.
It was the moment they had been waiting for. The Vikings had done it. Undefeated. District Champions.
This wasn’t just a victory; it was redemption. It was a statement. Every player, every fan, every coach, and every parent who stood behind them had made this possible. The Vikings were not just champions—they were the embodiment of resilience, unity, and the relentless pursuit of greatness. AETT for life. We all row, and today, we rowed to victory.

Strive for 5!
In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
