Principal's Message
NEWSLETTER WEEK 1 Term 3, 2024.
Welcome to Term 3. I hope the children enjoyed their break. The weather was good for getting out and about.
I have sent you a letter via school notifications regarding the story about St Mary’s in today’s Daily Post. Our PTA is a fantastic group of volunteers who work tirelessly for our school community. Please support them by coming to the next PTA meeting. The next meeting is the Wednesday the 7th of August at 7 pm. This meeting is held in the Staffroom.
.
I hope that children kept reading over the holidays and kept their reading logs up to date. They must bring their logs back by THIS Friday to be entered in the draw at this week’s assembly. Classes with a 100% log return will be entered in the draw for a class pizza and chips lunch.
Welcome to our new children who started at St Mary’s this week Kaeden, Aya, Silas, Riley, Marcus, Moana, Juan and Amanat.
Our Three Way Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, 30th July from 3.10 pm to 6.00 pm and Wednesday, 31st July from 3.10 pm - to 5.30 pm. To book your conference please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the event code h36bj
The conference aim is for parents, students, and teachers to co-construct literacy, maths, and values/key competency goals.
Reports will be sent home with your child on Friday. Included is a whanau sheet to rate your child’s progress against each key competency area.
The Key Competencies are capabilities that help your child learn. Using the scale, tick the box that best describes your child. Please bring this document to the interview because this will form part of the discussion to co-construct your child’s next learning goals at the learning conferences.
Have a wonderful week.

Director of Religious Studies
Welcome back, everyone. I hope you had a restful break with your whanau.
On Friday 9th August we will be celebrating the founding saint of our school Mary Mackillop with Mass at 9 am to start our special day. It would be lovely if you could join us. We will be giving our new children (since Term 2) rosary beads at this Mass, and welcoming our new families with a blessing.
Next week each class will start to bring their Prayer Bags home. Each child gets the opportunity to bring it home over the next few terms. This is your opportunity as a family to write a prayer together. Enclosed in the bag will be a prayer cloth, candle, rosary beads, and some everyday prayers to use at home. If you have any other suggestions on what we should include I would love to hear your thoughts.
Our focus this Term in Religious Education is the Te Atua-God strand. Currently the Year 0-2 Team is identifying some names and images for God and using them in their prayers. The Year 3 and 4 Team are learning about the Holy Trinity and building on their relationship with God through prayer. Totara Team will be using the arts to celebrate a Saint who has been inspirational to our school community.
I hope you have a wonderful week.
God bless.

SPECIAL MENTION
Over the holidays Carwyn & Noah Squibb went over to Taupo to attend a speedcubing competition. It was Noah’s first and he did amazing competing with the pyraminx cube. Carwyn did the 3 x3, 2 x 2, skewb, and pyraminx. No personal bests but Carwyn got to be a scrambler for the competition and Noah had his first go at judging! Well done boys sounds like an awesome day!
