Notes from Dr. Denson

Hello Parents & Guardians,

We have made it to the final stretch of the school year. This month we will wrap up MAP testing, engage in a variety of celebrations, and reflect on our learning from this school year to help guide us in the future.

MAP

The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test will be administered school-wide in grades 5-6 from May 7-10. MAP make-ups will be the following week from May 13-17. The purpose of the MAP test is to measure how well students acquire the skills and knowledge described in the Missouri Learning Standards. As in the past, this year’s test will be administered online. Students will use their own district issued chromebook.

You can help ensure a successful testing experience by making sure your child is at school/present, well rested, and prepared with a charged chromebook on testing days. Having a good breakfast each morning will also increase your child’s energy and stamina.

Parent Teacher Organization

Please join us for our next meeting on May 8 at 5:30 in the Jefferson school library. We will be finalizing plans for our upcoming end of year student event (Jag Fest) and determining officers for the next school year.

Early Release Day

Book Fair

It's Book Fair week! Our final book fair of the year will be held from April 29-May 6. Students will have an opportunity to visit the fair with their ELA teacher. They can also come down on their own anytime during the school day. Additionally, the fair will be open from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, May 2. Proceeds from every purchase benefit our school and classroom libraries! Take a look HERE for more information!

Band Concert

The Band Concert will be on Wednesday, May 1st at 7:00pm in the St. Charles West Gymnasium for all 5th and 6th grade band students. This year’s concert will feature performances by the 5th Grade Concert Band, the 6th Grade Concert Band and a special performance by the St. Charles West Jazz Band. We have moved the location to St. Charles West due to the large crowd/traffic and lack of parking at last year’s concert. We hope this helps out!

PTO Meeting

Please join us for our next PTO meeting on May 8th at 5:30pm in the library. We will be finalizing plans for the 2nd annual Jag Fest and determining officers for next school year. Hope to see you there!

Jefferson Choir

Jefferson Choir Concert Date Change!!! May 2nd

The May 2nd Choir Concert will be split into 2 smaller concerts, one for each grade level. This change is being made in an effort to accommodate our crowd size, include more students with solos, and provide more focus and attention to each grade level.

5th Grade Choir - Concert at 6:00pm in the Jefferson Gym. Students will need to arrive at 5:30 in the GYM prior to the concert.

6th Grade Choir - Concert at 7:30pm in the Jefferson Gym. Students will need to arrive at 7:00 in the GYM prior to the concert. Concert attendance will be required for students to be eligible for our end of the year field trip!

SELECT CHOIR - Select Choir students will perform at BOTH concerts on the night of May 2nd. More information TBA during our first rehearsal.

6th Grade General Music Students - General Music students will have the opportunity to sign up to attend and help with one or both of the concerts listed above to go toward their concert performance credit for the end of the year field trip if they choose to go! Concert attendance will be required for students to be eligible for our end of the year field trip! Save the Date! More information TBA!

MAP Testing

School wide MAP testing begins on May 7th and runs through May 10th. Please make sure your student gets a good night's sleep, eats a healthy breakfast and comes to school ON TIME with a charged Chromebook!

Library Books are Due

As the end of the year approaches it is important for all students to be searching for any missing library books. All books will need to be returned to the library by Friday, May 12th. If your child is still missing a library book after the due date, they will receive reminders from Mrs. Zuccarello. Families will also be sent an email asking for your assistance in helping your child look for any book(s) they still have. Any lost of damaged books will need to be paid for before the last day of school.

Yearbook

If you have ordered a yearbook for your student, they will not be available until the last week of school. At that time, each teacher will receive a list of those who ordered and they will be given to them. For those who weren't able to purchase a yearbook before the due date, there will be some extras ordered and will be available on a first come first serve basis.

Lost & Found

Please have your students check Lost and Found before the last day of school if they are missing items! There are lots of glasses, jackets and water bottles! All items will be discarded or donated at the end of the day on May 24th!
