A note from Mrs. Estenson...
Toro Community,
We hope you all had a great weekend. In Honor of Filipino Heritage Month, Students and staff who are of Filipino Heritage have been honoring and highlighting important and successful Filipino figures and have posted these in the front of the office for students and staff to see.
As we approach Halloween and get excited to celebrate, we also want to honor Dia De Los Muertos, “The Day of the Dead”, on November 1st. Please see below for more information on how we will be celebrating this day as well. This is a wonderful way to celebrate loved ones. We of course are also looking forward to celebrating Halloween with our students on Thursday and are looking forward to seeing all the fun and creative costumes. Please also see the guidelines for costumes to ensure that all costumes are school appropriate so we can all have a fun and safe day.
This week is a short week with a minimum day on Thursday (Halloween) and no school on Friday for a Professional Development day for teachers. We are also excited to take some select 8th graders to the Local 342 Training Center this week to experience workshops and learn about the trade. We are hoping to bring more college and career opportunities for our students and will continue to keep you informed.
We hope you all have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Estenson

Día de Los Muertos o Todo Santos
As Halloween is this Thursday, we also want to acknowledge “The Day of the Dead/ El dia de Los Muertos”
Dia de los Muertos o Todo Santos/ All Saints celebrates the lives of friends, family, and ancestors who have passed away. Traditions include building altars decorated with photos, favorite foods, and special belongings of loved ones who have died. Marigold flowers, sugar skulls, and the favorite foods and drinks of the deceased are placed on altars as offerings. Families often visit and decorate graves of loved ones at local cemeteries. Parades, festivals, and vigils are also held to welcome the spirits.
The holiday provides a chance to remember our cherished loved ones who have passed and rejoice in their lives. Sharing funny and poignant stories can help us process grief. But for some, the anguish of losing someone close can be profound and enduring.
In order to celebrate here at El Dorado, we are setting up an altar/ ofrenda to commemorate our loved ones who left ahead of us.

Lunch Time Activities
El Dorado’s Toro Math Learning Acceleration (TMLA)
El Dorado’s Toro Math Learning Acceleration (TMLA) offers after school support to students who have demonstrated a need for either academic support, or other support related to work completion and organization in math. TMLA is separate from the After School Clubs that also offer general tutoring and homework help. It is a tutoring program directly supported by math teachers. We plan to eventually move toward a peer tutoring program as well.
Based on grades, work completion, or teacher recommendation from the current year so far, we feel that your student would benefit from participating in this program.
Program Outline:
Students will attend at least two tutoring sessions weekly. Our math teachers will be offering math tutoring Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday after school from 3:00-4 :00 p.m.
Contracts will be accepted on a first come basis. Only 20 students will be allowed to participate in tutoring sessions each day(It is important to identify what days your student will be committing to attend tutoring on the form below.).
Students can have no more than two unexcused absences per marking period (Tardies count as absences).
Students are expected to continue in TMLA until they show that the services are no longer needed( they are passing their math class with a C or higher).
This program began on 10/21/24. Math teachers sent letters home with students who received a failing grade in math for quarter 1. Please ask your student if they received a parent letter from their math teacher. We strongly recommend that you enroll your student in this program, because in the past students who consistently participated in after school math tutoring have been successful. Please contact your student’s math teacher if you did not receive a letter from your student. A copy of the letter can be found here.
Only students who return a signed parent contract may participate.
