BRAUN BRAGS!
We love to BRAG about out students. As teachers and parents nominate the students, we are able to celebrate their awesomeness here!!
Kennedy Medley
Kennedy is amazing. She is truly a STUDENT-ATHLETE! She is involved in both Softball and Basketball travel teams and plans to try out next year here at East Hills. She participates in the weight lifting club and even spent some of her year on the STEP team. She loves to go shopping with her mom and jump around at SkyZone with her friends. She spends a lot of her summer in the pool and loves to swim! She came from Governor Wolf and enjoys the extra Related Arts we have here (Sewing, Cooking, Woodshop, Metalshop). She has made great gains in IXL and is a fabulous student! Miss Kern is her favorite, she likes how she always helps, listens to the students, and is super nice! We are so glad that Kennedy is part of our East Hills family! We are so proud of her!
ADMIN ADMIRATION!
Our staff and faculty are such amazing people! Working TOGETHER. CONNECTED. STRONG. we are able to do outstanding things for our students!
Miss Babinsky
We are so grateful for Miss Babinsky. She works so hard with each and every one of her students. The growth in her Bridges group in IXL is one of the top in our school!
She is our Girls Basketball coach, runs a basketball 3 vs. 3, and is a coach in our new Flag Football team!! She is always a team player with her teaching team as well, always willing to help out, happy and positive, appreciative, and adds humor to all!
Miss Babinsky always sees the positive in our students and staff and works so well with everyone. Her students know they can come to her for extra help and she takes time to make sure they understand the material. She is a fantastic mentor and support for all of her students.
Outside of school, she is training for a half marathon and rides her bike ALL THE TIME!
We are so blessed to have such an amazing teacher here at East Hills!

Breaking the phone habit: Taking Control of Our Lives
Last week, we discussed how screen time and social media can affect your child's mental health. We started the challenge of tracking your screen times (both you and your child) to see who is the most and least on their phones. This week's challenge is about becoming aware of how we feel when we are not on our phones, and doing some phone setting maintenance to limit notifications. Meet with your family for the weekly phone challenge and compare how many hours everyone has been on their phone this week versus last week. Make a competition chart and set goals for next week's check-in.
Challenge: Set an amount of time for everyone to put away phones for the purpose of tracking how they feel.
After the no phone time challenge, hold a conversation about how each of you felt when you didn't have your phone.
It is common to hear anxiety, feeling like they need to do something and worries about missing out on friends.
Being aware of your emotions when the phone is on versus off, is the first step in gauging how phone use is affecting your life. Talk about how many apps are designed to trigger dopamine release, the feel good hormone, which is similar to how brains react when playing slot machines.
To help reduce the slot machine triggers to look at your phones, go through your phone app Settings together and look at the notifications. Turn off all distracting notifications, especially the apps that kids respond to the most. Next, Set your phones to Do Not Disturb after an agreed upon time.
Agree to limit phone use at least a half hour before bed and consider charging phones away from the bedroom.
Next week, we are going to talk about how changing notifications made a difference or not, and about adults modeling healthy phone habits. Good luck with your challenge!

CELL PHONES!!
New for 2024-25
Summer is coming to a close and often we neglect to realize many of the changes the students will need to become accustomed to when school starts. Waking up early, preparing to catch the bus or travel to school, schoolwork, homework, and the list goes on.
One major area to consider is that your children will not have the same access to their cell phones when they become students again.
Parents, please prepare your child(ren) for the adjustment. Most parents have limitations they set for their children throughout the summer days to limit screen time. However, all of the students and you as parents need to know that we are adjusting our standards for the upcoming school year. We looked back on the level of distraction vs. usefulness cell phones have provided over the past few years and we realize the need to set a tone for the school day to be largely void of the distractions of cell phones. Here is what you should prepare your child(ren) for when they return to school:
Students may not CARRY phones in hands, pockets, etc. Cell phones must not be out at all. They must remain in bags during the school day. This means:
Students can never use cell phones in class, hallway or office without teacher/staff permission.
Students can never carry cell phones in hand in the hallway.
Students can never take cellphones to/in the lavatory.
Students can never take cell phones to the cafeteria (not in purses/lunch bags if those items are brought to the cafe).
***Smart watches have similar restricted use in all the same ways as cell phones. Smart watches can and will be collected if used inappropriately.
