Parent/Teacher Conferences
Monday November 25th and Tuesday November 26th are reserved for Parent/Teacher conferences this year! This is the only scheduled time for a one-on-one meeting with your student's teacher. It's vital for your student and their teacher's success throughout the year. If you have not signed up for a time, please make sure to reach out to your student's teacher. You should have received an option to sign up for a time slot by now however there have been some issues with sending links through Synergy and Remind.
If you are in need of any interpretive services during these meetings, please reach out to Kellie at kgrunde@pps.net ASAP. As this is a district wide time for conferences resources are limited. We would love to help ensure that all guardians are welcomed during this time.
From the Llewellyn School Counselors
Dear Llewellyn Community!
Happy October! Your counselors have really enjoyed getting to know students as we have taught class lessons and begun small groups. In September, students had lessons focused on the role of the School Counselor, building a positive school community and in addition for K-1, school safety. In October we will focus on the Zones of Regulation curriculum and building our toolbox to keep ourselves regulated and well. Ask your student to do a zone check-in with you and keep an eye out for their personal toolbox handout to come home.
We are so excited that our small groups are up and running! Ms. Kate is working with the 5th grade Leadership group and lunch bunches with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders! Ms. Brittany is currently running the Good Morning Club, a 2nd and 3rd grade Kindness Kew, lunch bunches and additional groups will be starting for kindergarten and first grade. More information will be sent soon!
Lastly, Llewellyn's community care program has begun! This is an opportunity for families who may need a little additional support around school breaks/holidays with clothes, food, and more. Please reach out to your School Counselor or complete this survey The Family Support and Connections Survey.
We look forward to continuing to build relationships and get to know each child.
Ms. Brittany and Ms. Kate
· Brittany Sill-Turner (Kinder, 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders)
· Kate Knochel (4th and 5th graders)
Thank you,
Brittany
From the Office
Website news! The district is in the process of switching website providers, please be patient as the website changes daily. We essentially have no control over the website until the process is complete! Please reach out to the office if you have any questions that need clarification.
If you have a last-minute change to your student's end of day plans, please call the office by 2:00PM. After that, it becomes much harder to get a note to teachers before the day ends. PLEASE CALL! We cannot guarantee that emails to the office or teachers will be seen after noon. Thank you for your help in making sure your student gets where they belong after school!
Please feel free to reach out to the office with questions. The office is open between 7:00AM and 3:00PM on school days.
Oregon Statewide Assessment
Oregon is committed to preparing every learner with academic knowledge and skills necessary for success beyond high school. Oregon’s statewide summative assessment of English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics is fully aligned to Oregon’s State Standards and provide students in grades 3-8 and 11, along with their families, one measure of academic achievement and growth.
Oregon families have the right to opt students out of taking these tests in math and English language arts. Fifth grade families can also request an exception to the Oregon science assessment. You can find the opt-forms here as well as more information about these tests. Students may not opt of MAP/district testing however.
These tests will happen in the spring more notice will be given from your teacher as we grow closer to the date. You will need your students SSID number. These numbers are different than their Student ID number and can be found in the student info section on ParentVue. If you need assistance with this, please reach out to the office!
From the School Health Assistant
Requirements for Medications at School
All medications to be brought in by legal guardian, NEVER brought in by the student or given to classroom teacher.
Medications may be given to school nurse, school health assistant, or school secretary only.
Medications must come with doctor / pharmacy provided prescription label.
Medication forms must be signed at time of medication drop off (attached) Blank forms available at school as well.
Parents must fill out new form for any changes to medication (ex: time of day)
Medication must be picked up at end of school year or medications will be destroyed
*Contact the health room staff with any questions*
Non-Prescription and Prescription Medication
Oregon law requires that all medications administered at school, prescription as well as over-the-
counter medications, be dispensed from an original prescription container and be accompanied by
written consent from parent as well as written instructions from the physician. School personnel are not authorized to dispense any medication at school unless these requirements are met. All medication must be administered by the school nurse or trained school personnel only.
The required forms are available in the Health office and only these forms are permitted. No medication will be administered until these completed forms are on file. These regulations are to protect everyone—the student, our staff and other students. Students should not bring medication to school with them. It should be brought to the Health Room or secretary by the parent. If you'd like to save a little time when you bring your student's medication in, you can print and fill out THIS FORM ahead of time.
Covid Tests
Every household is eligible for four free at-home Covid 19 tests. If you have not done so already you can order them here.
Volunteering at Llewellyn
We LOVE volunteers! If you plan to volunteer at Llewellyn at any time, a background check must be completed. This is done at the district level at no cost to you and is good for three years. Please keep in mind that it can take up to 2-3 weeks for the application to be processed, especially at the beginning of the year. Look here for more information, to apply, or to see if your current application is still valid.
PTA Happenings
The Monster March is October 27 at 3pm and starts and ends at Llewellyn while going through downtown Westmoreland. Our fifth grade parents will host a bake sale to help with funding their 5th grade overnight. It’s always a fun time and we always enjoy seeing all of our Llewellyn families and community members in their costumes.
Our annual pumpkin carving contest will be October 31! Students must be able to carry their own pumpkin into the school and take them home at the end of the day. Everyone who participates will receive prizes from our wonderful sponsors, Lathrop Orthodontics. So go pick out a pumpkin and let’s see those carving, painting, or drawing skills. We are excited to see what everyone comes up with.
