Celebrating Métis Week
Learning more about the Métis culture!
Throughout this week the students have learned a lot about the Métis culture this week during morning prayers and announcements. There has been a focus on language, artwork, the Métis anthem, and an overall appreciation of the identity of the Métis.
Did you know that our school faith goal includes learning more about Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing (understanding the culture and way of life) our prayers and learning this past week this allowed us to bring these connections to the classroom?
Legal School students and staff will make meaningful connections between the Catholic faith and Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing within their community by seeing everyone as wonderfully created by God.
Throughout this week and every day, we are continuing to share this foundational knowledge and creating opportunities to participate in reconciliation activities that teach our students about First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture and traditions.
Blessings,
Mrs. Kleparchuk, Principal
Mrs. Crowston, Vice Principal

How to Reduce Power Struggles
There are good reasons for expectations, boundaries, and rules in the home, but sometimes these expectations (like putting electronics away for dinner) are met with statements like “I’m still playing!!” or “I’m not done yet!!” Any time there is a power struggle between you and your child, nobody “wins”. Power struggles just end up causing feelings of upset and frustration for everyone involved.
One strategy that helps to reduce power struggles at home is: Providing two options (that you, as the adult, are okay with)
For example, when it’s time to turn off screen time, two options could be “Would you rather turn off the TV or would you like me to turn it off?”
Giving two choices helps your child feel heard while still accomplishing what needs to be done and still being firm in the boundaries you set.
Here is a guide from Big Life Journal on things you can say to reduce power struggles in the home.

Farewell Ms. Gamache
We have some sad news to share right before the fall break Ms. Gamache accepted a position at her previous school Sister Alphonse Academy. The job she was in last year (and for 5 years) become open at SAA and so she has transferred back there. We are very sad to lose her expertise and love of books, but wish her well! We are in the process on hiring a new Library Technician for the school and when someone is hired we will let everyone know.
Thank you Mrs. Caldaralo!
We have been blessed to have Mrs. Caldaralo join us at Legal School since the beginning of the school year and her consistency has been great for the students in Kindergarten and Grade 3 Math and Science and Grade 5 Science. We are looking forward to having Mrs. Fraser back and we know she has missed everyone very much. Welcome back Mrs. Fraser!

Free Webinar Sober Curious? Thursday, November 23 | 7:00-8:00pm
Rethinking Your Drinking? Or just wanting to learn more about the "Sober Curious" movement, and the role of alcohol in our lives and culture?
Through Covid, many of us increased our alcohol use in part due to boredom. Since before then and beyond, many of us have regularly turned to alcohol as part of our everyday lives. From 'mommy wine culture', to the explosion in the craft beer market and the weekend scotch club, our patterns of drinking have left many of us questioning WHY we drink and the role alcohol plays in our lives.
In this webinar, we will begin to explore our relationship with alcohol, and will get clear on the emotional and physiological effects of alcohol. Getting curious about our alcohol use provides the opportunity to see how sobriety or moderation might fit into our lives. No commitment is required. Short-term, long-term or not at all, the sober curious webinar will promote mindful drinking habits and introduce the possibility of a lifestyle change.
