Message from the Director
Saturday is Earth Day. I am definitely guilty of taking this planet for granted. I'm also old enough to realize that the climate and weather of my youth has changed. It is a source of pride that we make everyday efforts to care for our environment. Food Rescue, using disposables like trays made with recycled materials and buying energy efficient equipment all play a part. What ideas do you have to improve efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint? One idea we recently put into practice at VHS, is for servers to turn the serving lines on while setting up the area just before service. The wells heat up very fast. In the past, these lines were cranked up early in the morning and were just wasting energy sitting idle for hours every day, year after year. Much of this is simply habit and I challenge you to take time to question and help improve some of our decades old practices. I know that together we can do better.
