Some thoughts for the starting school year
Counseling Update
MCIS (MN Career Information System)
MCIS is a great website to help students prepare for their future career. Students can take career interest inventories, research majors and programs, learn more about the skills and training required for specific careers, study for the ACT and other national tests, and search for scholarships. Students have worked on their grade level career plan tasks during Advisory throughout the school year. The Counseling Office is offering MCIS Support Elk Times on the dates below for students who still need to complete their grade level checklist or would like more time to explore the career resources on MCIS. You can also visit Mrs. Davison in the Career Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00-7:30 AM for more assistance. Students log into MCIS through their RapidIdentity Go! portal.

Helping students be successful in semester two
I’d like to share a few tips to help your student start strong and stay on track for success.
Establish a Routine: Encourage your student to create a daily schedule that includes time for homework, extracurricular activities, and relaxation. Consistency helps build positive habits.
Review Goals Together: Take some time to talk about academic and personal goals for the semester. Setting specific, achievable goals gives students a clear focus and sense of purpose.
Stay Organized: Help your students organize their materials—backpacks, notebooks, and digital tools—so they can easily find what they need. A clutter-free workspace at home can make a big difference.
Encourage Communication: Remind your students to communicate with their teachers and peers whenever they have questions or need support. Open lines of communication build confidence and problem-solving skills.
Support Study Habits: Assist your students in creating a study plan and finding effective strategies that work for them. This might include breaking assignments into smaller tasks, reviewing notes daily, or using flashcards.
Monitor and Celebrate Progress: Check in regularly on their progress, and don’t forget to celebrate achievements—big or small. Positive reinforcement boosts motivation and self-esteem.
Prioritize Well-Being: Encourage balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and sufficient sleep to ensure your student is at their best both mentally and physically.
We are excited to partner with you to make this semester a great one for your students. If you have any questions or need further guidance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
