Happy New Year! 2025 is going to be a year full of events for the class of 2026. This month's newsletter will be short and clear. You will find:

Senior Advisor Information

Crosby Scholars Jr Requirements Deadlines

Information on T-Shirts

We are working on assigning Crosby Scholars Senior Advisors to every student graduating in 2026. You will meet with your advisor at least 4 times. Spring Junior Year, Summer Between Jr & Sr Year, Fall Sr Year & Spring Sr Year.

In order to match you with the correct advisor, please complete the Advisor form in the CrosbyConnect student portal.

***********IMPORTANT ****************

If you want to self-select an advisor you need to complete this form by Monday, January 6th. A self-selected advisor can be a parent or other trusted adult that is willing to complete meeting notes in the Crosby Scholars Advisor Portal, and help you reach your college goals. Each Self-Selected advisor is required to attend a Senior Advisor Volunteer Training.

Every junior is required to attend one academy by January 31, 2025. Many of you have already met that requirement. We will continue to offer programs not only for those who need academy credit but for all students that want to fulfill the senior year academy requirement early or just want to attend more sessions to benefit from the information. There is still space in the academies below. Sign up in your student portal.

SELF PACED ACADEMY

1. Financial Literacy - CFNC.org - COMPLETE 10 Modules with 80% pass rate using the Crosby Code. Link to Literacy Academy --- CODE 46A8A3-2223
2. YouScience- Career Exploration Evaluation -Sign up for the 1/31 Academy and a link will be sent to you to complete the aptitude and interest evaluation at your own pace.

Interested in any of these topics, please register in your portal now for the academies that best match your needs and schedule.

Teo Diaz has reached out and is looking for student volunteers to help with coaching students with disabilities in a special basketball league.

"Basketball season for our kids with disabilities this upcoming Sunday 1/7/24. Every Sunday until 2/18/24. We will be meeting at Shepherd Elementary School, in their gym with the kids for the ASD program. If you have any kids that might be interested in helping out and get some service hours towards their college applications, please let me know." Thank you,

Log into your Crosby Scholars Student portal and click on the Community Service Task. You will see a form that you can complete to let us know you are done with service requirement.

Juniors are required to take the ACT at school this coming Feb/March. Your school counselor will have details and dates. This is an excellent time to take this test for FREE. Some colleges, like the UNC System, have already stated they will be test optional for admission for the class of 2026 if your GPA is over a 2.8. If you have a 2.8 or lower, you will be required to submit a score. Many schools base honors programs and scholarships on either the ACT or SAT.

Both the ACT and SAT will allow you to select several colleges to send your scores at no cost prior to the test. If you are not sure how you will perform on these tests, please DO NOT SEND YOUR SCORES without knowing them.

Shirts will be distributed at your high school. Please complete form by January 15, 2025. Adult sizes only.
