Principal's Message
The snowy and cold month of February is now squarely in our rearview mirror. March is upon us and the promise of warm weather is just on the horizon… hopefully? Before we say goodbye to February, I would like to celebrate some of the great things that took place in our building. Two of our grade levels had the opportunity to do some learning outside of the walls of the elementary school. Students in third grade went to the Eastman Theater and listened to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Next year these students will have the opportunity to learn an instrument themselves. Our fifth-grade students spent a day at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Both grade levels enjoyed unique learning experiences at two of our region's most beautiful venues. Love was in the air as our classrooms celebrated Valentine’s Day. My desk was filled with valentines, candy hearts, and countless goodies. It was a great way to end the week and send everyone off into the Winter break!
One of the biggest highlights of the school year for me is the PTSA’s Family Matters celebration. This year's event will be held on March 8th from 5-7 in the High School Cafeteria. Family Matters is a great opportunity for families to spend an evening together, play some games, and potentially win some great prizes. Please come out and support the PTSA!
School Spotlight
This month, our interventionists have been focused on supporting their student's reading fluency. Reading fluency is defined as the speed, accuracy and expression with which a person reads. Students should focus on making their reading sound less robotic and more like they are talking. Developing our fluency while we read is important because it aids in our comprehension of the text!
There are many ways to support a child's reading fluency inside and outside of the classroom! To support your child's reading fluency at home, you can regularly read aloud to them, model fluent reading yourself, encourage them to reread favorite books, choose books at their reading level, practice high frequency words, use audiobooks, and have them read passages multiple times to improve accuracy and speed. Happy Reading!
