Attendance Updates
Important News from the Attendance Desk of Kathy Lommen
The attendance office is going to be short staffed December 17 - 20. Kathy will be out the office as well as some of our office volunteers. Those filling in that week will do their best to keep up, but if you know now that your student will be out any of those days, the sooner you can let us know the better!
And, remember, all day current or future absences can be updated through ParentVUE.

Winter Gift Baskets
We want to thank our community who contributed $11,000 so we could support 45 IBW families this winter! Families received baskets of goodies and between $200-$375 in gift cards.
Please take the Successful Schools Survey by December 16th.
Our ILT, Site Council, and Culture and Climate teams look at this data to determine school wide goals and initiatives of where we need to improve and maintain. It's the one survey that I believe actually helps us steer the direction of our school and school systems.
Every year, Portland Public Schools gathers feedback about school climate and culture from students, families, and staff through the Successful Schools Survey. The results help us understand the needs of our community in each school (Ida B Wells) and as a district overall. We use the data to provide targeted feedback and training to leaders and staff on how to create healthy school environments that are welcoming for all. Please use the QR codes below to take the survey.

There are lots of lost items (especially water bottles) outside room 139 that need to go back to their owners! Pick yours up before Winter Break or they will all be donated during the break.

Speech and Debate Team News
Speech and Debate hosted 34 schools on Friday and Saturday for their annual tournament. Over 500 students and 175 judges participated in 18 different speech and debate events. Fourteen Wells students represented our school.
The top three competitors in each event were recognized. Wells had an impressive showing, with several Guardians taking home medals. Parliamentary Debate was the largest debate event with 44 entries - Naima Jaitla & Jay Elstad-Mastrolonardo earned 3rd place. Naima also placed 3rd in both Original Oratory and SPAR debate, Rory Daniels and Robert Kaiser tied for 1st in SPAR. Sammi Shelton earned 3rd place in both Poetry and Informative Speaking. Several other Wells competitors had outstanding results, placing among the top in their event in preliminary rounds. The team will compete again on January 18-19 at Lewis & Clark College.
For Seniors - Grad Night, Senior Slideshow and More!
Grad Night Tickets
Prices for the Class of 2025's Grad Night Party will go up on Jan. 1, earlier than planned. This is because of an increase in the cost of the event. Tickets are currently $100 per senior. They will go up to $125 on Jan. 1.
Buy tickets on SchoolPay: https://www.schoolpay.com/pay/for/Senior-Grad-Night-Party-Tickets-20242025/Sb1Z3vp
Families interested in full or partial Grad Night scholarships can contact school counselors. Find your student's counselor.
Grad Night is an overnight event that will take place after the graduation ceremony. Students will load up on buses about 10 p.m. to go to a surprise location for fun, entertainment and food. A quiet space will be available if students need to take a break. Adult chaperones will be onsite. Sign up to volunteer as a chaperone.
Watch for upcoming fundraisers to support Grad Night: a See's Candy sale in time for the holidays, an electronics recycling drive in winter and early spring, and a wine and purse sale in April. You can donate anytime toward Grad Night scholarships and expenses via SchoolPay. https://www.schoolpay.com/pay/for/Senior-Grad-Night-Party-Donation/SbtnOCF
