Health Sciences Trip To NovaCare
Students in the Health Science Academy took a field trip to NovaCare on Tuesday November 19th.
During this experience, the students were able to learn about aspects of physical and occupational therapy that include balance, cognitive challenges, splint/cast application, and the use of thermal and electrotherapeutic modalities for pain and muscle strengthening. Students also learned about proper body mechanics, how to lift with good technique, and hydrotherapy for rehabilitation.
The staff at NovaCare were very accommodating and friendly. They shared a wealth of knowledge and experiences which our students greatly appreciated. They even gave us “gift bags” when we left. Overall it was an amazing experience.

Next Style-A-Thon is on November 26
The Cosmetology Department hosted day one of their Style-A-Thon fundraiser, benefitting a GCIT family in need on Thursday, November 21st.
If you did not have a chance to sign up for the first day, use the link below to sign up for day 2 of the Style-A-Thon on November 26th.
To sign up for Tuesday, November 26th, click here.
Cosmetology students will provide services including manicures, facials, and hair shampoo/styling, to staff, students, family, and friends!
All proceeds of this fundraiser will be donated to a GCIT family in need that recently lost everything in a house fire.
We would love to fill every slot to make this event a huge success for the family. If you do not have time to stop in you can still support our event by donating.
Please contact Katie Arnold karnold@gcecnj.org if you have any questions.
Thank you for your kind support!
Below are pictures from the first Style-A-Thon, which was held on November 21. Thanks to all those who supported this worthy cause.

School Based Youth Services Gives Back To Cathedral Kitchen
School Based Youth Services was fortunate to have wonderful students participate at Cathedral Kitchen in Camden on November 20th. The students did a great job, and they were also able to bring in 160 PB&J sandwiches which were donated through our local church.
We will be going again December 9th and January 28th. Any student that is 16 or older is welcome to attend with us, but space is limited.

School Based Advisory Council Dinner
School Based also hosted is annual Advisory Dinner on November 21. Thank you to those families that came out. We had a great dinner which Chef O and Chef A worked on, and the desserts were provided by Chef Hassan and Chef Yost... AMAZING! We also had guest speakers that spoke about Mental Health and how to get in touch with local agencies to assist with emotional and behavioral complexities. A list of numbers and agencies will be provided in an email.
Again, thank you for supporting School Based Youth Services. We also have a few slots open for our trip to Longwood Gardens on December 5th. Please get a permission slip from one of our offices and come on along for the ride. The place is absolutely gorgeous and below are a few pics from last year.
Have a great day and we know the holidays can get stressful, never suffer in silence. Come down and talk to us, that's what we are here for! Happy Holidays all.

Monthly Staff Recognitions
Each month, staff nominate their colleagues who they believe exemplify the GCIT values of dedication to students, our school community, each other, and who go above and beyond the call of duty. They write the reasons for their nomination and the administrative team votes and award 4 staff the title of the Staff Recognition Of The Month. Below are the winners and the narratives written by their colleagues.
Robert Kijewski
I know I am bias but I can't help but nominate with all I see at school and outside of school....Just an amazing teacher and coworker. He is teaching an overloaded schedule for the College level course for World history class that he has written and continued to worked on for years. He spends hours grading the essay tests and research papers, while writing tons of college recommendation letters and NHS recommendation letters. This Friday's club he had his club as well as the DEI council group there meeting as they await their new advisor, always willing and ready to help the students and staff alike the best he can with a pleasant demeanor. This season his XCC boys varsity and freshman squad he coaches both have done outstanding medaling and placing second in the meet last weekend and looking to win the Tech Championship next week.
Rob has consistently modeled professionalism in his classroom, with his colleagues, and on the athletic field. Mr. Kijewski teaches college level history and holds his students to high standards. He is frequently counseling students, grading papers, and organizing workouts for the cross-country team. His dedication to academic standards, our student athletes, and the school make him a valuable member of our school community.
Dan Roskiewich
Mr. R is the face of this place! It's not a pretty face, but everyone certainly knows who he is and how passionate he is about this school. R is involved in everything that happens here and he takes pride in working with ALL students. He is a great teacher and a wonderful colleague. Not pretty, but still wonderful.
Amanda Botbyl
Amanda is the true unsung hero of the English department. She is the glue who holds us together. Her organizational skills, positive attitude, and patience with others are truly top notch. Amanda deserves all the praise for her selfless dedication to her students & other staff members!
Ginger Dykas
Ginger was a substitute for 7 years prior to becoming a Teachers assistant at GCIT. She comes with many years of industry experience. She works really hard and takes a lot of pride in what she does every day. She truly cares about the students and will go the extra mile on their behalf. When she steps in as a Sub, you don't have to worry. Everything gets taken care of. We are so lucky she is part of the Team. Can't thank her enough for all that she does. She truly deserves this recognition.
4 teachers, @170 cosmetology students and Ginger is there to help everyone. Whether she is working with students one on one, assisting teachers, organizing supplies, or helping with events Ginger never says no. She goes above and beyond, and we are fortunate to have her in our department. Thanks for everything you do.
