Referral Requests for Gifted and Talented Testing
Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or campus staff. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher.
Referrals will be accepted from October 1 - December 19, 2024. The referral form is located below. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage. Please return to Lisa Lackey at llackey@conroeisd.net when complete.
Our October character trait is INTEGRITY: the practice of doing what you know is right, thinking before you act, being accountable for your actions, and always trying your best.
October is also bullying prevention month and Red Ribbon Week.
Students will participate in a variety of activities that focus on drug awareness and building a kind and supportive school culture.
Red Ribbon Week theme days and dates are listed below.

We are off to a great start this year!
Fine Art Fee- should be added to School Cash Online account this week *Please note that the $20 fee includes a shirt for the student already.* I have their shirt sizes as indicated on the Handbook Agreement form. You only need to purchase additional shirts if you would like to.
Practice Records- Due every Tuesday and should be signed by a parent/guardian.
Planners- If you are wondering what your child should be working on, please check their planner as they should be writing down their homework every day.
Private lessons- We still have plenty of spots open with a number of our instructors! Email me and I will send a list of instructors for your child.
Cello/Bass Parents Only: The one-time yearly fee of $77 is now accessible on SchoolCashOnline. This helps pay for the upkeep of the instruments and makes it so that your child doesn't have to transport their home instrument to and from school every day.
Art
Students in Mr. Hunt’s class are working on their realistic drawing skills and are learning about artist Chuck Close as they work on creating a work of art using the grid method. In Mrs. Williams’ art class we are working with clay. Students are exploring how to use a variety of tools, practicing different techniques for working with clay, mapping out their designs and beginning their final clay project.
If you have not already done so please pay the art/music fee through your school cash online account. This fee will purchase the supplies your student will need throughout the school year in both art and music. Students are welcome to bring their own art supplies to supplement what is provided by Collins but it is in no way required. Happy drawing!

Collins Cobra Choir is in full swing! Remember that our first performance will be at the College Park HS auditorium on October 1 at 7:00pm. We will be singing in the College Park Feeder Concert along with Wilkerson Intermediate, Knox JH, and College Park HS!

Collins PTO
Friends of Collins
Attention Collins Cobras!! Give me FIVE! You have earned it!
On behalf of the PTO, we are proud to announce we have reached the goal of raising $35,000 in record time! With 5 days left in the fundraiser, the Friends of Collins Committee has accepted the challenge to raise an additional $5,000! So ask your friends and family to “Give me FIVE!”
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
For each additional $1,000 raised, we will reveal a Collins staff member who will be SLIMED!
Want to be the AWESOME student who gets to slime the staff??
It's simple, make sure at least one $5 donation is made on your online campaign in the next 5 days and you will be entered into a drawing to be one of the lucky students that gets to slime some of your favorite Collins staff!
Head over to the Collins PTO website to get your donations in!
So remember, GIVE ME FIVE! You deserve it!

Clinic
The clinic will be performing Scoliosis screenings on all female 5th grade students on October 16th and October 17th. This state mandated screening is performed in order to allow for early scoliosis detection and intervention. I will be sending out letters to parents to notify them of this upcoming screening.
It is Flu Season!
Flu shots help reduce your chance of getting the flu, and also lessen the severity of your symptoms if you were to get sick with the Flu. As always, the best way to prevent illness is by washing your hands! Frequently wash your hands and work to avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
