Dear AUL Family,

Last week, despite the rain, we held a successful Open House at Barclay. We look forward to welcoming all of our new seventh and eighth graders to our school. We are still currently enrolling. If you know anyone who may be interested in enrolling his/her child, please refer them to the school secretary or our outreach coordinator, Ms. Lucila Valentin.

Autorretrato/Self Portrait

Objetivo: Crear y presentar un autorretrato/pieza de arte personal con símbolos para expresar sentimientos sobre un tema en particular. (Create and present a self portrait/personal piece of art with symbols to express sentiments on a particular subject.)

Descripción: Durante el año escolar, en las unidades estudiadas, hemos discutido el profesionalismo, la salud y las actividades físicas para una vida más saludable. Como parte de esto, discutimos la belleza y la estética en todas las formas, físicamente, arquitectura y en otras áreas, y cómo afecta nuestras vidas. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de ampliar su conocimiento de los temas explorando las experiencias personales y profesionales de Frida Kahlo, como la expresión artística, la influencia familiar, las relaciones personales y el valor de la educación.

Students discussed professionalism, health, and physical activities for a healthier living. As part of this, we discussed beauty and aesthetics in all forms, physically, architecture, and in other areas, and how it affects our lives. Students had the opportunity to extend their understanding of the topics by exploring Frida Kahlo’s personal and professional experiences such as artistic expression, family influence, personal relationships and the value of education.

Founded in 2010 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the Academy for Urban Leadership Charter School is one of Middlesex County's comprehensive Public Charter Schools that serves students in seventh through twelfth grades. The school operates under the terms of a charter granted by the New Jersey Department of Education.

When the school first opened in 2010, it did not have the books, tables, or classrooms necessary for students to be in an adequate learning environment. Even the principal, at the time, had to serve as a lunch aide. Since then, AUL has developed to help students receive the education they deserve. AUL has expanded by opening two new campuses, expecting to provide the opportunity for students to continue to succeed, with graduation and college admission, as two of its goals.

AUL offers an advanced academic track and AP courses.
